Barney Peterson is a Regional Teacher of the Year
In June, Barney was named the District 2014-15 Teacher of the Year. Later this summer, she was selected as the Regional Teacher of the year. She is one of nine other teachers in the state in contention for the designation as Washington State Teacher of the Year. That ceremony is on Monday, the day before the board meeting. It could very well be that the board will be honor Barney as the State Teacher of the year on Tuesday!
The "why," "what,"
and "how" of Springboard.
Springboard is the College Board's career and college readiness program for students from sixth through high school. The district approved Springboard materials in June 2014 in preparation for more rigorous, research-based materials aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The board will review how Springboard is being used and how it is impacting instruction and learning.
Annual Student Achievement Report
In every grade and in every subject for which students took state tests last spring, Everett Public Schools students outscored their peers across the state -- in some cases by double-digit percentages. The board learned in a study session last week that the distance between state scores and district scores has been growing wider and wider over time. In this session the board will spend more than an hour unpacking layers of assessment scores to analyze district and school achievement progress -- and what policy and governance decisions can support continuous learning improvement.
This is National GEAR UP week!
Two different federal GEAR UP grants since 2006 have helped encourage and support students to make college and career a plan. Most of these are students who may be the first in their family to aspire to college or training after high school. The board will hear from GEAR UP teachers and students about the summer academy where a number of students earned college credit.
