The school board will meet in regular session on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the board room at the Community Resource Center

March 11 agenda items of note:
  • Progress report on the district's elementary literacy program. The district is in the fourth year of using Good Habits Great Readers. This presentation will review the successes and challenges with the program and the future work for elementary literacy. 
  • Resolution 1083 -- authorizing an interfund loan from capital projects to the general fund. Why is this? The district's general fund dollars are allocated from the state each month. The March payroll date falls on March 28 -- four days before the March allocation from the state on March 31. The $10 million interfund loan for four days at 0.10 percent is $109.59.   
  • Meeting with the Mill Creek City Council -- at 6:30, the board will recess into a work study session with the city of Mill Creek. This is a public meeting that has been publicized by the city and the district.

Register now for July 9 Transparency Training Session to be held at the Everett  Public Schools Community Resource center from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

That evening's Transparency Town Hall session runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

These events, hosted by the State Auditor's Office, are designed to provide members of the public the opportunity to better understand the role of the State Auditor's Office in government transparency.

Volunteer for health!

April 17, 5-7:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Elementary for the school's first Family Health and Fitness Night. Heatherwood was one of nine schools to earn a Hope Heart Institute Fitness Grant. YMCA, Molina Healthcare and Hope Heart Institute are partnering to provide families activities, health supplies and resources.  

 

Contact Jennifer Beteta or Kristen Crakes to volunteer for one hour time slots to have fun and to help. 

Cascade High School DECA earns national competition slot!
DECA advisor Jodi Galli has taken teams to state competition for nine years. This year, the team travels to Atlanta, Georgia in May for the national DECA competition.

Wanda Hill of Penny Creek Elementary is
Wanda, in the center, has taught in the district for 25 years. She is a Microsoft in Education Expert and a member of the district's Tech Cadre.

Jackson High School junior's research project gains national and international attention.
Indira Rayala is a member of the JHS Science Research and Engineering Club. Her research into the uses of cranberry extract on crops earned her an invitation to the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Washington, D.C. and a slot to compete at the International Sustainable World Olympiad in Houston, Texas.
