Aug. 26 board meeting topic highlights

You can find the agenda and other board materials online in
BoardDocs

The school board will meet in regular session on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the board room at the Community Resource Center located at 3900 Broadway in Everett, WA 98201.

IN THE CONSENT AGENDA

  1. The board will consider approving minutes of its Aug. 21 and 22 summer planning workshop which included discussions of assuring adherence to Open Public Meeting Ac, allowing additional public comment during board meetings, what the Common Core State Standards and 24-credit graduation requirements for the class of 2019 mean for students and the district.

When does the school board meet?
Regular and special school board meetings are listed on the board's annual work plan and meeting schedule in BoardDocs. They are updated regularly.

FOR BOARD ACTION
  1. Approving the operating budget for 2014-15. On July 1, the board held first reading for the budget and will consider adoption at this time to meet state requirements that school district budgets be adopted by Aug. 31 each year. The July 1 first reading followed 18 different board presentations and discussions from August 2013 through June 24 2014.
  2. Approving the district's Capital Facilities Plan for 2014-19. The plan includes a description of the district's educational program standards, calculations of how many students each school can accommodate, how many students are projected to attend in the future, what classrooms and school facilities needs are projected, and a finance plan for meeting those needs. Both the city of Everett and Snohomish county use the plan to determine what to charge as impact fees for new housing.
  3. The board will also consider action to clarify its Board-Superintendent Operating Protocol and audience participation during board meetings -- both items the board analyzed in depth during its Aug. 21 and 22 summer planning workshop.
  4. The board will also consider making a minor revision to Policy 1130 -- a revision that would avoid future misinterpretation of the board's long-standing "committeeof the whole" which audits district finances.
