Dear MRTA:

GOOD MORNING and GOOD JOB!  SB 125 was
defeated late last night.

The House debated HCS/SS/SCS/SB 125 (Jamilah Nasheed) on May 8 and defeated HCS SB 125 by a vote of 76-82 (click here for final vote).  The vote board was held open for nearly the maximum thirty minutes allowed under House rules, but House leaders were not able to pressure enough legislators to change their votes to pass the bill. MRTA opposed the HCS version of SB 125.

The HCS for SB 125 includes several additional provisions, including teacher evaluation mandates and layoff provisions from  HB 631 (Kevin Elmer R - Dist 139 Nixa) which was already defeated on the House floor April 14, 2013.  Click here for vote on HB 631.

THERE HAS BEEN NO MOVEMENT ON SENATOR LAMPING'S BILLS (SB 221, SB475, SB476, and SB 477)!  Click here.  It seems that the 29,998 signature petition MRTA presented has worked.  Session ends at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 17.

 PLEASE STAY TUNED!

THANK YOU for being counted as a member of MRTA!

MRTA works to protect your retirement benefits and to enhance the quality of life for ALL Missouri education retirees - present and future.
