The Ultimate Balancing Act - on the High Wire

Are you a mum who had commitments and priorities outside the home as well as within? If so, perhaps from time to time you feel you are really exposed up there on the high wire, and more than a little wobbly!

Feeling comfortable on the highwire means developing a really good awareness of what keeps you centred, and making the tiny, regular adjustments necessary to maintain this equilibrium.

To reach the other side, you need to look straight forward - not down, and certainly not back!

You take small steps forward, and get back into balance after each step. As you grow in confidence, you may take quicker, lighter steps.

The audience might be holding their breath - but you mustn't! Keep breathing slowly, evenly, deeply.

What do you already know about what keeps you centred, in balance and very present in each moment? What else do you need to find out (or test out)? What can you do to welcome these elements into your life on a more regular basis?

What will help you make those tiny adjustments as you take those small steps forward?

Where are you focusing your gaze right now? What could help you look forward more?

Who, or what, do you know is there to catch you?

kb Welcome to the second issue of Tips from the Big Top, my newsletter for Mums who are juggling home and work commitments. My aim each month is to explore a different aspect of our lives and offer some timely reminders about the things we can do for ourselves to make our lives as working mums as fun and fulfilling as possible. I use the Circus Theme because there are so many great images and concepts we can relate to in the Big Top! And, our lives do feel a little like a circus act at times, do they not?!

If you have tips you'd like to share with other working mums, either tell me, or share them on my Facebook Page. I've gathered a lot of excellent input already, and am working on how to share this in a meaningful and helpful way - what I observe most so far is the massive diversity of experiences out there!

I'm writing this still energised from our Beyond the Juggling Act workshop yesterday. This was a wonderful occasion for sharing ideas, experiences, dreams - and it gave me many new twists and interpretations of this circus theme - enough to fill these newsletters for months to come!!

Due to interest levels, I will be running this event again, probably in May, so please let me know if you'd like to find out more or pass this onto anyone you feel might benefit from this event.

If you need help in any aspect of your own personal juggling act, and you'd like to find out whether and how coaching could help, I offer a free exploratory session (face to face or on the phone). I also offer coaching workshops in and out of the workplace, and, skill sharpener sessions in groups or 1-1.

I welcome any feedback you have on this newsletter - and any ideas for future topics you'd like to see explored.

All the best
Kirstin
