Mother Nature is in her renewal phase and the glory of spring on the west shore of lower Vancouver Island is upon us. Cherry blossoms, warm breezes and light rains, it's perfect weather for cycling to yoga class! This year they say flared jeans and silk scarves are trending in fashion, and in the health and fitness realm it seems all things yoga continue to trend. One style in particular is making a splash in mainstream news - Yin Yoga.

We have been enjoying Yin Yoga personally and at the studio since early 2014. Yin class is a luxurious healing experience and the perfect compliment to our original hot and flow style yoga classes. On Sunday March 20th we will host a special Thai Massage Yin Yoga Class limited to 12 participants. See below for details.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS - SPRING 2016


Original Hot
The Bikram Method Yoga Class and original hot yoga. The poses come from the Bishnu Ghosh lineage. This 90 minute class consists of 26 hatha yoga poses practiced in a specific sequence inside a heated studio. Known as Bikram Yoga worldwide it is designed for all levels and is beginner friendly. For millions of people around the world is has proved to be effective in the prevention of, and recovery from injury. A general performance enhancement for athletes and fit minded people, it is an excellent class to increase general flexibility and balance. It is a recommended part of many physical therapy programs. Ensure that you are well hydrated and avoid eating 2 - 3 hours prior to class.
 
Bikram Beatz
The Original Hot class with music that is upbeat and rhythmic. A super fun twist on an already powerful experience. If you are a music lover and a Bikram Yoga lover this will surely become one of your favourite classes!  

Hot 60
A shorter and faster paced version of the Original Hot class. A 60 minute hatha yoga class in a heated studio. Everyone welcome. Ensure that you are well hydrated and avoid eating 2 hours prior to class  

Power Flow 60 w/music
A 60 minute Flow Yoga class with music. Practiced in the heated studio, which helps warm the muscles up quickly and thus prevents injury, this class focuses on improving upper-body mobility, developing core strength and regaining lost spinal flexibility. Sun salutations and vinyasa flows combined with hatha poses create a dynamic and energizing class. Arrive well hydrated and avoid eating 2 hours prior to class.
 
Hip & Core 60 w/music
Focus is lower core and lower body. This 60 minute class is designed to firm and tone the glutes, inner thighs, hips and core. Strengthening this region improves digestion, overall posture and helps to prevent back injury. Practiced to music in a heated studio, this class is suitable for beginners but not recommended for those who are injured. An ideal practice for hockey players, gymnasts, dancers and athletes of any discipline. Arrive well hydrated and avoid eating 2 hours prior to class.
 
Balance & Bliss 60 
A Flow Yoga class designed to help students explore and master inversion and arm balancing postures. Each month a new inversion or arm balance posture is the focus - also called the peak pose. A Flow style practice is constructed to build up to the peak pose and its variations. This is a 60 minute class and is warm but not hot. Each class will consist of an intelligently designed sequence to target specific regions of the body to prepare for the peak pose. There will be time for free play with the variations of the pose presented. Arm balance and inversion postures strengthen the core & upper body, increase flexibility and sharpen mental focus and concentration.  Take this opportunity to relinquish self-doubt, ignite your inner fire and tap into your inner strength & courage. Therapeutic Yin Yang 60 w_music
Yin yoga directs the stimulation that is normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues. This 60 minute class is practiced to soothing music in a warm studio. It is designed to release deep tension residing in the connective tissue (ligaments, bones, and joints of the body) and provides opportunity to explore a deep release of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Suitable for all levels, this class is a perfect compliment to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat as well as the lengthening and contracting of muscles. THAI MASSAGE YIN YOGA  
with Courtney McKiel

Class size limited to 12 participants to ensure optimal Thai Massage adjustments for each individual.  
 
Yin Yoga targets deep connective tissues around our joints to allow our body to open creating more blood & energy flow through the tissues.  
 
During this 75 minute Yin Yoga session Courtney will use Thai Massage adjustments. These adjustments include a combination of acupressure, localized stretches & compressions and various full body movements bringing individuals out of the pose and back into it, allowing for more space and mobility. Participants must be comfortable with physical touch.

WHY KIDS YOGA CLUB!

With the focus on mindfulness, compassion, and play kids will learn yoga postures to help develop muscle stability, maintain proper body alignment and improve mental focus. In a playful safe and comfortable environment and with the instruction from a certified experienced yoga teacher they will explore breathing techniques to aid with maintaining control of emotions and how to cope with negative thoughts, frustrations and anxiety.

Kat Garvey will lead our WHY Kids Club! Kat has over 7 years experience in coaching kids in gymnastics and is a certified yoga teacher with over 100 hours of teaching experience. She is lovingly referred to as a "kid magnet' and connects to children on the level of play, kindness and creativity.
