What is meaningful to you, and in your life? Your health and happiness? Our Earth and the environment? Your family and friends? Your career, research, volunteer work, your education...

To sustain our lives in a meaningful way we must support our own physical and mental health and well being. This is a basic requirement for all of us. One of our main objectives at BYW is to hold the space and support our students in this constant process. This month we are celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary as a Yoga Studio. Jacqueline wishes to briefly share the very roots of our yoga story with you, with the intention to inspire you to keep health and well being first and foremost in your life, and what is meaningful close to your heart: 

Paramahansa Yogananda, born Mukunda Lal Ghosh, was an Indian yogi who introduced millions of westerners to the teachings of meditation and yoga. The significance of this man and great teacher, and how much of a ripple effect his life and teachings have had became crystal clear to me during a recent yoga class. Anastasia shared her powerful "first class experience" with us during savasana. It took me right back to my first class, which forever altered the course of my life, then my mind flashed through some other stories like this I have heard from teachers like Thandi, John, Shandell, and many other teachers. Suddenly I recalled countless powerful 'first class experiences' that students have shared with me over my 9 years of teaching. Perhaps your first class had a profound effect on you?

Yogananda inspired his brother Bishnu Ghosh, the teacher and guru of Bikram Choudhury, (along with what is now millions of others) to embark on the journey of self-realisation and freedom from the constraints of the mind. Through his mother, Yogananda was exposed to many spiritual teachers. Among his most constant teachings are kindness and the art of letting go.

Here are some very brief class descriptions:  
Level I - 60:
A fast paced version of Level I 90, heated studio, hatha poses, everyone welcome.

Level I - 90: heal & recover from injury, heated studio - Bikram Method  Hatha poses, excellent for general performance enhancement, everyone welcome.

Power Flow 60:  Hatha poses & vinyasa flows, energizing, dynamic, heated studio, beginners welcome.

Hip & Core 60:  Targets lower body, music, heated studio, ideal for athletes, beginners welcome.

Therapeutic Yin Yang 60:  Warm studio, yin poses, music, releases deep tension in the connective tissue, everyone welcome.

Level II 75:  Heated studio, hatha poses, 75 minutes, natural progression from Level I, not for beginners or injured persons.

Level III - 105:  Experienced Level II students only, pre-registration will be required.




YIN / YANG YOGA AND ACUPUNCTURE CLASS WITH EMMA BARKER AND BRITNEY STABLES

SEPT 20th at 5:45pm

Yoga and Acupuncture enhance each other: yoga brings up the energy, and acupuncture moves it and removes any blockages.

Bikram Yoga Westshore and Stillpoint Community Acupuncture bring you a unique class combining these two modalities.
 


Acupuncture and yoga both work on the meridians, which are energy pathways that run throughout the body.  Restorative yoga postures can help in opening these meridians while acupuncture can move any energy that is blocked along these pathways. During  savasana Emma Barker (R. Ac) will place a single needle between the eyebrows of each participant (a point called 'Shen Men') to calm the mind and assist the body in relaxing and assimilating the practice.
Correct posture, improve mobility, relieve pain and chronic tension.

We are not a franchise and we do not pay fees to Bikram Choudhury.

Ask us about renting our studio for classes, workshops or events. Our Boutique carries a selection of hot yoga gear, mats, towels, supplements, books, etc. Most classes are suitable for beginners.
