April Hot Sheet
2014

Dear

How are you feeling? Did you know that your natural state is happiness? That you are light, love and happiness? And yet at times we all have overwhelming and negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs. When combined with busy schedules or hectic lifestyles this all can make that seem hard to believe. Too much to do and not enough time to get it all done? Somehow we must find a way to keep in touch with our divine light and happiness. Usually after yoga class the energy has shifted measurably to the positive. This is perhaps one of the biggest things that brings us back into the hot room again and again.

We would love to know: what brings you back into the room again and again!? Please share your yoga story with us so that we can compile a book of yoga stories to share with our yoga community. We are sure that your story is a unique one, as unique as you are. We plan to use only first names with the first initial of the last name in the book. If you are interested in being part of our Yoga Stories project please send us your story at yoga@bikramwestshore.com. To start us off our teacher Thandi Williams shared her amazing yoga story in her teacher bio on our website. Take a second and get inspired:

The practice of yoga can help you take control and  reduce stress in your life, whether you get to yoga once a week or every day.  How? By focusing on your breath you bring yourself back to the present moment and free your mind of worrying about the past and the future. The time in your life will pass regardless of how you feel. Do you know what? When we are present in our body we feel more alive, more comfortable with who we are, and more happy.

Here's a few more ways yoga can help you to take the stress out of your day...

yoga improves balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength in the joints of your body, leaving you less prone to injure yourself in your other sports, jobs and daily activities

yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure, and can alleviate other chronic conditions such as depression, chronic pain and insomnia

As always we thank you for taking a couple of minutes to check out our monthly newsletter. At the top right hand corner you'll find the Table of Contents and the Quick Links table. There are some great events happening on the West Shore and in Victoria this Spring. Make time to get out and enjoy some of them!

Have a great day and see you in the hot room!

Now is the Time

Now is the time to know

That all that you do is sacred.

Now, why not consider

A lasting truce with yourself and God?

Now is the time to understand

That all your ideas of right and wrong

Were just a child's training wheels

To be laid aside

When you can finally live

with veracity and love.

Now is the time for the world to know

That every thought and action is sacred.

That this is the time

For you to compute the impossibility

That there is anything

But Grace.

Now is the season to know

That everything you do

Is Sacred

Circuit Training is a fast-paced class in which you do an exercise for 1 minute and then have 30 seconds to move to the next exercise for a total of 30 minutes per circuit.

It is like a game of musical chairs: everyone begins at a
station (an exercise), and when the bell goes everyone moves to the next station. It is set to music and some examples of stations are  are  step-ups, squats/lunges, leaps, push ups, sit ups, TRX drills, curls using free weights , etc.

It is a fun, fast and effective way to tone up, strengthen your body and burn fat.

The Didi Society

The Didi Society empowers women through fair, direct trade, and educates and inspires youth to become social justice leaders. Through direct support, strong relationships and solidarity, The Didi Society helps to bring about positive change that is complete and permanent.

By marketing the handicrafts made by these women and selling them locally in Victoria and BC, we are supporting their economic independence and sustainability. Our direct relationship and the support of the network of the groups, provides the women with a sense of ownership, belonging and self-empowerment which can be a rare opportunity in the societies in which they live.

Our education program strives to educate and empower youth and young adults about the underlying issues of inequality and injustice that the women we work with face. These include workshops, conference and/or independent projects on gender equality, sustainable development, fair trade and children's rights.

The Didi Society is completely run by volunteers, and is a registered non-profit. The Yoga with Didi is an on-going, monthly fundraiser that we host to help support the education program and operational costs. Each month, a different studio and teacher, volunteers their time and space for community members to practice yoga together, while supporting the work we do to empower women and educate youth.
