Greetings!

Mo the Clown A good time was had by all at the 36th annual Loon Festival.  Approximately 250 people came out for a fun-filled day of crafts, loon trivia, balloon creations, Science Center exhibits, storytelling, music, hot dogs and ice-cream!  Many thanks to Meredith Rotary, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, Mo the Clown and The Odd Men Out Celtic Band, and to the volunteers, staff & Board who helped make this another successful event.

As of late July, 185 loon pairs nested and hatched 143 chicks.  Of those chicks, approximately 125 are still alive.  These are just preliminary numbers so please see our upcoming fall newsletter for a full report.  I'd like to thank all of our volunteers who keep track of their resident loons all season and to those who participated in the Loon Census on July 20th.  Results from the census will be available soon!  We are hosting three Volunteer Appreciation Potlucks at the end of August to say "thank you" for your help this summer.  See below for more details.

There's still time to join Squam Lakes Project Biologist Tiffany Grade on a Loon Cruise.  The last one is scheduled for Friday, August 30 at 3 pm.  Click here for more information.

The Lake Sunapee Dinner Cruise was a big success! Hopefully we will be able to make this an annual event.  Our special guest, Senator Bob Odell, was presented a framed photograph taken by Kittie Wilson for his hard work as co-sponsor of Senate Bill 89.

Even though our field season ended last week, you can continue to send your loon sightings anytime.  Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

All the best,
