Subject: Excessive Heat Warning for Wednesday, June 12
Action: TAKE THE NECESSARY PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND THOSE YOU SERVE AGAINST THE DANGERS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning. The Excessive Heat Warning is for portions of the south central Arizona, northwest and north central Pinal County including the greater Phoenix Metropolitan area.
The Excessive Heat Warning will remain in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 12. The NWS reports afternoon temperatures ranging from 108 to 112 degrees.
IMPACT: TAKE THE NECESSARY PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND THOSE YOU SERVE AGAINST THE DANGERS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT.
In response to this communication, please have outreach staff assist homeless recipients in obtaining water, hats, sunscreen and shade due to the excessive heat. In addition, please implement the following activities as needed:
- Initiate outreach efforts and utilize available clinic staff to assist with communication and welfare checks for at-risk recipients who may be at risk of severe health impacts due to extreme heat
- Advise area hospitals of the excessive heat warning and urge them to consider the extreme weather conditions when discharging recipients
- Document all actions taken regarding outreach and contact (e.g., checking thermostats during home visits)
