Save the Date! MY Fest '13--Youth Involvement Festival March 24!

"Creating a Future Free of Bullying and Suicide"

MY LIFE youth will host their sixth annual youth festival, MY Fest '13, Sunday, March 24, from  12 to 5 p.m., at Tempe Beach Park. MY Fest is a youth involvement festival featuring live music, entertainment, art, food, and information about resources and services from a variety of youth and family-based Valley organizations.  The annual festival is planned and produced entirely by MY LIFE youth members. This year's theme is Creating a Future Free of Bullying and Suicide.

Youth Involvement in Arizona's Behavioral Health System Workshop

Magellan and the Arizona Department of Health Services/Division of Behavioral Health Services (ADHS/DBHS) will host a training and workshop focused on youth involvement in the behavioral health system, Thursday, Feb. 6, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., at Magellan (4801 E. Washington St., Phoenix). Targeted to providers working with youth and young adults, family members and other stakeholders, this workshop will enable attendees to participate in an interactive training and dialog related to the new Arizona Youth Involvement Technical Assistance Document. Released by ADHS/DBHS in July 2012, this document:

 

-- Defines youth involvement in Arizona's public behavioral health system

-- Promotes understanding of the benefits of youth involvement in their own recovery and within the behavioral health system of care

-- Supports the development and implementation of youth involvement throughout all levels within the ADHS/DBHS system of care.

Provider Fairs Help Non-Title XIX Members with SMI Learn More About Available Services

Members with serious mental illness (SMI) who are Non-Title XIX eligible are invited to learn more about the services available to them at provider fairs. Held at the adult SMI clinics throughout the month of February, members will learn how and where they can access services such as: 

 

-- Supported employment

-- Peer support

-- Family support

-- Respite care

-- Living skills training

-- Personal assistance

-- Non-emergency transportation

-- Permanent supportive housing

Youth Creative Writing and Poster Contest

In celebration of National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week (May 5 to 11) the Family Involvement Center (FIC) will host a creative writing and poster contest to raise awareness around children's mental health and help reduce stigma. The creative writing contest is open to youth ages 12 to 18, and the poster contest is open to youth ages5 to 18. The deadline is Monday, March 11, and winners will be announced at FIC's Gallery Event Wednesday, March 20. View writing contest and poster contest rules.

 

 

Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign

The Human Services Department has launched its Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign! The City of Phoenix is partnering with the IRS, Arizona Department of Revenue, Salt River Project and the faith-based community to promote the EITC campaign. Individuals and families who earned less than $50,270 in 2012 qualify to receive free tax-filing services.  Click HERE to find out if  those you serve meet the federal income guidelines to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Family Support Groups

NAMI Family Support Groups are open to all adults who have a family member or friend living with mental illness, regardless of diagnosis. These meetings are facilitated by trained NAMI members and participants are encouraged to share actively in the work of the group.  Click HERE to view the schedule.

Visions of Hope Arizona is offering adult peer family support for families of adults who are Title XIX and are enrolled in SMI services. Click HERE to learn more.
