D.R.E.A.M. Job Fair is this Thursday, Oct. 18

In honor of National Disability and Rehabilitation Employment Awareness Month (D.R.E.A.M.), Magellan and several community partners will host the D.R.E.A.M. Job Fair to provide job and networking opportunities for people with disabilities in Maricopa County this Thursday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Gateway Community College (108 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ 85034). The goal of the job fair is to provide employment related services, resources, information and ideas on placing even more people with disabilities into meaningful long-term employment. Magellan to Host Training on DUG 6.0 Oct. 23

Magellan Health Services of Arizona will host a training related to the DUG 6.0 changes being implemented in January 2013. The meeting will take place Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m., in Magellan's Camelback Conference Room (4801 E. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85034). Reminder 

Financials are due Tuesday, Oct. 30

Magellan would like to remind you that contract year-to-date financials for the period July 1, 2012, to Sept. 30, 2012, are due Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012. Please be aware that this due date is in accordance with the Provider Financial Reporting Guide (FRG) and the Arizona Department of Health Services/Division of Behavioral Health Services (ADHS/DBHS).

 

The guide is available online HERE (follow the "Provider Financial Reporting Guide" link). Please submit your financials to [email protected]. If you plan to send financials via fax or through the mail (hard copies), please send an e-mail to the above address notifying the Finance team of your method.


   

Submission deadline for Recovery Book materials extended to Oct. 31!

The quality of submissions for the Recovery Book has been incredible, but we know more people are out there with equally good stories, poems and artwork related to their recovery journeys. That's why we are extending the due date for submissions to Wed., Oct. 31. Please encourage recipients to send their writing or artwork to Magellan for a chance to have it included in a new book, which will be published soon. Please read, print out and post the English flyer and Spanish flyer. Materials may be e-mailed to [email protected] or sent through U.S. mail to: Magellan Health Services of Arizona, Community Relations, 4801 E. Washington St., Ste. 100, Phoenix, AZ 85034.

A Successful Approach for Serving Older Adults Webinar 

"Senior Reach: A Successful Approach to Serving Older Adults" is the topic of the Thursday, Oct. 25, Magellan/ACHMA: The College for Behavioral Health Leadership webinar, a no-cost virtual event that takes a look at a successful program tailored to meeting the service needs of older adults. The webinar will run from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Arizona time.

MHAC invites you to the 17th Candlelight Vigil

The Mental Health Awareness Coalition invites you the 17th Annual Candlelight Vigil, hosted by the ASU Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy (CABHP) and supported by partners, Magellan Health Services of Arizona, Visions of Hope, MIKID, CHEEERS and S.T.A.R. This free event will recognize and honor people who live with mental illness and bring the community together to reduce the stigma associated with brain disorders. The event will feature music, a board of remembrance and an information fair, and will be followed by a picnic dinner in ASU's A.E. England Building across from the park. The annual event is set for Thursday, Oct. 25, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m., at the Civic Space Park located at 424 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004.

"Understanding Depression," presented by Denise Beagley, MSc., Magellan learning specialist, Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. This course is designed to raise awareness on the effects of depression and the characteristics that accompany it. Attendees will examine and discuss differences in presentation of depression in various populations.

 

"Ericksonian Approaches to Service." presented by Randy Webb, MA, MC, LPC, LMHC, Monday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Milton H. Erickson, MD was a gifted healer who inspired the therapeutic work of generations of helpers. Come and learn mechanics of permissive clinical hypnosis and powerful strategies and techniques to bring out the best in those seeking help.

NAMIWalks is this Saturday, Oct. 20!

Join NAMI for their eighth annual Valley NAMIWalks this Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Arizona State Capitol (17th Ave. and Jefferson, Phoenix, AZ 85007). This year's event will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the walk at 12 p.m. Register as an individual or as a group online HERE.  

 

Pulitzer Prize-winning musical 'Next to Normal' shows effects of mental illness

The Arizona Theater Company (ATC) will present Next to Normal, the Pulitzer-Prize winning rock musical, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, and music by Tom Kitt that tells the story of a mother, Diane Goodman, who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. The ATC is partnering with National Alliance on Mental Illness, Arizona Foundation for Behavioral Health (AFBH), PSA Art Awakenings and Magellan Health Services of Arizona in a community engagement project in conjunction with performances of the musical. AFBH will also hold a fundraiser through ticket purchases for the Oct. 26 performance of the play. Tickets for this performance are $53 per person and can be purchased by calling (602) 712-9200, ext. 204. Information about the musical and tickets for other performances can be accessed HERE.

Southwest American Indian RAINBOW Gathering

Community organizations serving LGBTQ Native American's have established a partnership with Aunt Rita's Foundation to sponsor a symposium that addresses the needs and vital supports to underserved communities. The second annual Southwest American Indian RAINBOW Gathering: Circle of Diversity event will feature keynote speakers, community resources and benefit services, and networking opportunities for healthcare providers and community organizations in the Southwest serving the Native American LGBTQ community.
