CLINT NEUFELD: PIPE DREAMS OF MADAME RÉCAMIER
January 10 to March 3, 2013 Koffler Gallery Off-Site at General Hardware Contemporary 1520 Queen St. West
OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday, January 10, 2013, 6 - 9 PM
For several years, Neufeld has been working with the most "Saskatchewan" of forms: engines, excavating buckets, and other mechanical devices and tools employed throughout the province. His sculptures, however, are not made with industrial materials but rather lovingly handcrafted from delicate substances such as painted ceramic, porcelain and wax, and paired with domestic furniture, doilies and other parlor accoutrements. Beautiful and meaningful, Neufeld's objects speak to notions of art making, aesthetics and identity politics on both a national and very regional level.
PANEL DISCUSSION: Monday, January 14, 2013, 6:30 - 8 PM Engaging with Ceramic Processes in Contemporary Art The Gardiner Museum, 111 Queen's Park, Toronto A panel discussion with artists Clint Neufeld and Linda Sormin, and Rachel Gotlieb, Senior Curator, Gardiner Museum. Moderated by Mona Flip, Curator of Koffler Gallery. Presented together with the Gardiner Museum.

IN THE COMMUNITY
Preserving The Pri-Or PhotoHouse
The Pri-Or PhotoHouse in Tel Aviv - founded by Rudi and Miriam Weisenstein - documented Israel's development, its people, and its rapidly changing culture. Today, the archive is in need of preservation. Sternthal Books has undertaken the digitization of the studio's portraits, and will publish a book of images that reveal a rich anthropological study of Tel Aviv - its fashion, customs, and faces. The book will pair interviews and curatorial essays alongside a diverse mix of portraits, with subjects ranging from political heroes and folksingers, to painters and ordinary Israelis.
You can help support the preservation of this valuable archive by ordering a photographic print from The Pri-Or PhotoHouse from a selection posted here. With your order you will also receive a free copy of the book once it is printed.
Orders can be made from Sternthal Books, online, or via e-mail.
