HERE'S WHAT WE LEARNED...

Gail, Joshua Becker and Karen

NASMM 2015

Spring is in the air and the Divas are thrilled to be back home and sharing the information, innovations and inspiration we discovered at the National Association of Senior Move Manager Conference in Florida.

Our amazing Keynote Speakers taught us about...

MINIMALISM

Joshua Becker shared his story about embracing MINIMALISM and the changes he his family noticed:

After a conversation with my neighbor on Memorial Day 2008, we decided to become minimalist and intentionally live with fewer possessions. We cleared the clutter from our homes and lives.

As a result, we found a better way to live centered on more important pursuits. It has been a journey of discovering the abundant life is actually found in owning less. And it still ranks as one of the best decisions we've ever made.

It is a tale we hear time and time again when we help people downsize, organize and move. A few weeks after the move, most tell us they've had an ah-ha moment and realize "they should have done this ages ago!"

LIVING WITH BRAIN CHANGE or DEMENTIA

Teepa Snow, one of our favorite people, returned to Conference and shared her unique perspective as an advocate for those living with brain change. She encouraged us to see more than loss in people's changing abilities and celebrate what is still there.

Teepa also shared some of her Positive Approach tips:

When meeting a person with dementia:

  • Greet them warmly and...smile!
  • Move slowly - offer your hand in a handshake position
  • Get to their level
  • Be friendly!
  • Keep conversations short and simple.

TIME TO SPRING CLEAR!

Most people downsize because they are moving. But, even if this is not your year to move, why not make a conscious effort to CLEAR items you and your family don't want, use need or enjoy.

You certainly won't become a minimalist overnight, but you will find space you didn't know you had and reduce the time it takes to take care of items you really don't need.

Less time to clean, sort and rearrange your stuff means more time for you to be outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather! This spring, get out and about in your neighbourhood - have coffee at an outdoor café, attend a local theatre performance, join a community group or...whatever!
