It's the holiday season...

This Newsletter finds us in our usual holiday muddle - people to see, parties to attend, gifts to exchange, things to do and of course, wine and food to consume. We love celebrating with family and friends!

Over the past year, oodles of seniors and their families called Downsizing Diva to help them deal with the overwhelming stress of moving. These moves were large, small, complicated, and simple; throughout the process we have been fortunate to meet some of the most wonderful people.

Catch DOWNSIZING DIVA on Zoomer Radio - AM740

Tune in THIS Saturday, November 7th from 8am - 9am and catch the Divas on "From a Woman's Perspective". Gail and Karen will be talking about "Gifts that Jingle our Bells!"

2014 "WALK FOR MEMORIES"

Team Diva is getting ready to participate in the Alzheimer Toronto "Walk for Memories" on January 25 to raise money to support research and provide caregiver support.  This is a cause that is near and dear to our hearts!

For the last three years, the Divas have gone the distance, ruffled a few feathers (all ours!) and had a wonderful day! Apparently, the Divas are still shown in the CTV Walk for Memories ad featuring CTV's Andria Case!

A HEART-WARMING TRADITION:

We just received a wonderful Christmas Tree story from Tim Stewart, our favourite historian.

In the spirit of the season, we'd like to share Tim's story with you!

This evening, Thursday, December 5, between 6 - 8 p.m. Bostonians will gather at "the Common", the green space in downtown Boston, (1/4 the size of High Park) to light a Christmas tree, but not just any Christmas tree. The 15 metre white spruce is a gift from the people of Nova Scotia.

Why would Nova Scotians send a spruce tree to Boston?

It is a heartfelt thank-you to their maritime neighbours, who in a time of crisis and great need, unhesitatingly came to their assistance.

Ninety-six years ago tomorrow, 6 December 1917, Halifax was levelled with a terrible explosion that left 2,000 people dead, including hundreds of children, and thousands injured.

Two ships collided in "the Narrows" of Halifax harbour and a fire broke out. One of those ships was carrying munitions. At precisely 9:05 a.m., it erupted into a fireball causing horrible deaths and widespread destruction; the worst human-made catastrophe in Canadian history.

No one provided more assistance in the days and weeks that followed then Bostonians. Trainloads of supplies and medical professionals traveled north to Halifax during those days and weeks and to this day Nova Scotians have not forgotten.

A Christmas tree is a small gift of thanks.

 Happy Holidays!
Holly
