Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays

Where did 2012 go?

This Newsletter finds us in the middle of the holiday muddle - people to see, parties to attend, gifts to exchange, things to do and of course, wine and food to consume. We love celebrating with family and friends!

We also like taking time to reflect on some of the wonderful things that have happened to us over the past year:

1. Oodles of seniors and their families called Downsizing Diva to help them deal with the overwhelming stress of moving. These moves have been large, small, complicated, and simple and throughout the process we have been fortunate to meet some of the most wonderful people.

2. FIVE fabulous new Divas have joined our "Diva family" over the past year! Thanks to the efforts of Valerie Walpole and John Ferracuti at Downsizing Diva Headquarters, we are thrilled to welcome Rosie, Shirley, Heather, Aly and Cathy!

Look out world... more Divas on the way!

3. Alzheimer Toronto's January event - "Walk for Memories" -- raises money to support research and caregiver support. We entered a Diva Team, went the distance, ruffled a few feathers (all ours!) and had a wonderful day! We were asked to participate in the filming of the promotional TV commercial for the walk and had an interesting Saturday morning filming with CTV's Andria Case. Of course, we are looking forward to participating again in 2013.  *** see below!

4. At the ICD Conference - Institute for Challenging Disorganization - in Chicago, we presented "Walk in their shoes", our age-sensitivity training workshop. The session was very well received! After the conference, we had a chance to relax, take a Segway tour and explore Chicago - our "kinda town!

5. We are excited about participating in the 2013 NASMM Conference - National Association of Senior Move Managers  -- in January and we have been asked to present a session all about "Branding" to our senior move management colleagues. We are thrilled!

        *** ALZHEIMER "WALK FOR MEMORIES" - JANUARY 25, 2013

We have entered TEAM DIVA in the 2013 walk and would love it if you would consider sponsoring our team. The Alzheimer "Walk for Memories" is the largest fundraising event in the province dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds for vital programmes and services that support people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. GO TO: www.alzheimertoronto.org CLICK the "Walk for Memories" Banner, CLICK "Sponsor a Walker" and enter a name -- Karen Shinn and Gail Shields  on the Downsizing Diva.com team!
Thanks from the bottom of our hearts!

TEN Gifts that DON'T jingle our bells:
  1. Fridge magnets -- from places we have never been.
  2. Candles - unless you know the colour, scent and size of candles we use.
  3. Scarves - could be a great gift IF absolutely gorgeous!
  4. Lotions and Potions - most of us have so much, we could open our own stores!
  5. Paper Serviettes - unless they are beautiful or contain witty or funny messages.
  6. Clothes - IF, without a doubt, they are the perfect fit, colour and style.
  7. Jewellery - see above. Exception - when it's the REAL THING!
  8. Magazines - Good news... arrive every month. Bad news... arrive every month!
  9. Gift Cards - unless they are from one of our favourite stores.
  10. Knickknacks - or anything we have to find space to display.

Of course, consumable gifts -- theatre tickets, decadent chocolates, fabulous bottles of wine and money are always in style!
