November 11th - Remembrance Day!
An important Canadian tradition involves the wearing of Remembrance Day poppies each November. This simple act unites all of us as we take time to remember the sacrifice brave men and women in the armed forces make so we can continue to enjoy our Canadian way of life.
Remember... to tell YOUR story!
When you sort through your treasures, it is often difficult to let go of some things because of the stories behind them. There's a big difference between items with "dollar" value and those with "heart" value. "Heart" value items are woven into the fabric that can become part of your personal family history.
Tradition, history, story-telling -- these are words associated with treasures or heirlooms. Sometimes the story has been told so many times everyone knows it. More often than not, a familiar item has a story few have heard.
Do you have a treasure, with a wonderful memory attached? This November, take a few minutes and tell your story. Include as many details as you can remember - where it came from, who was with you when you received it, why it means so much to you. Then, share your stories and begin to create memories that can continue to connect one generation to another. |
What's new?!
When you simplify, organize, lighten-up and downsize, a big challenge is finding new homes for things no longer wanted, used or needed.
Right now, there is an interest in all things retro (from the 50's and 60's) and teak furniture and accessories (from the 70's). That's what people are interested in buying, so that's what dealers we work with are looking to purchase.
Matched sets of furniture - bedroom, dining room, living room - are not in great demand. Potential purchasers are young, living in smaller spaces with a very definite idea of what they want their homes to look like.
When we are ready to let go of some of our stuff, we want to hear that it is worth lots of money.
That's not always the case, which is why we say, "what you think might be worth money, may not be; what you think isn't valuable, could be".
To find out if your surplus furniture and accessories have "dollar" value, start with an internet search -- eBay, craigslist, kijiji.
Just remember, the items on these sites are usually for sale - not sold! The real trick is connecting motivated sellers with committed purchasers - not as easy as it sounds.
