WEEK AHEAD @ AISK Board of Trustees March 11, 2014

To:  Members of the AISK Community:                                                      10 March 2014

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and participation in AISK. This letter is a call for candidates to serve in a leadership capacity as a member of AISK's Board of Trustees.  We need and welcome your recommendations of people who stand out as parents, young alumni, alumni parents, and members of the greater Jamaican business, arts and international communities who may not be directly connected to AISK but who could bring a variety of unique interests, skills and other resources to our School.  AISK is about to mark 20 years of extraordinary growth, and its Board of Trustees remains committed to improving every component of the School's programs, facilities and financial health.

The Board of Trustees governs AISK. While it fulfills several roles, its most important tasks are to focus on the School's strategic direction, the quality of its educational programming, and the School's financial health.  Trustees at AISK have four principal responsibilities:

  1. Attend all Board meetings;
  2. Attend major School events;
  3. Serve on one of the Board committees and execute committee tasks; and
  4. Support the fundraising activities of the School.

You can read more about the Board of Trustees and its responsibilities in the Governance section of www.aisk.com.

The Board's nominations process is in place year-round to identify potential candidates. Its Governance and Audit Committee oversees Trustee nominations, and welcomes candidates who have a passionate interest in the education of children and are committed to the vision and mission of AISK.  A candidate does not have to be a parent. Good Trustees for AISK are people with strong strategic skills that have the long-term interests of the school at heart. The most important criteria are a candidate's overall personal capacities for wisdom, independence, creativity, and diligence.

If you are interested in serving on, or if you know someone we should consider for the Board of Trustees or one of its committees, please contact one of the following persons on or before March 31st, 2014: Julie Jones, Chair of the Board Governance and Audit Committee (2juliejones@gmail.com) and/or Shirley Davis (sdavis@aisk.com), Head of School.

Please note that nomination does not necessarily mean election, as candidate selection requires a balance of professional, geographic and cultural diversities, together with other qualities that combine to meet the ever-changing needs of AISK.

Some say that an institution is only as good as the people who serve it.  You have been supporting AISK by volunteering your time, talent and funds, all of which have made our School a vibrant and successful institution.  On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank you again, because AISK would not be what it is without you, and encourage your invaluable input in this process to ensure the continued success of our school.
