Mock Exams

Grade 12 students will be sitting their Mock IB Exams on the dates March 10 - 17.  This is an important part of the process of preparing for their final IB Exams in May.  It gives students an opportunity to truly test their learning and knowledge and gaining an awareness for strengths and weaknesses prior to the May Exams.  The learning that comes brings a focused approach during the months of March and April.

Please click here for the Mock Exam schedule.  Students in Grade 12 are only required to be at school if they are sitting an exam.

GIN (Global Issues Network)

A group of Grade 8 students are representing AISK and the work of the Grade 8 Social Studies class at the Tri-Association of American Schools GIN Conference in the Dominican Republic on March 13 -15.  Their project focuses on educating our community on the use of plastic shopping bags and this impact these bags have on the environment.

They have developed pamphlets and a strategy to reduce (replace) plastic bags with environmentally friendly reusable bags.  These bags will be available for purchase at AISK on Monday, March 10.  You may also see them reaching out to the Kingston community as they set up their educational awareness campaign at General Foods in Liguanea.  They will also arrange some fund raisers for their project - please watch out for:

Take Home Pizza for Dinner - Tuesday March 4
MS/HS Green Dress Down Day - March 10
Reusable Shopping Bags for Sale - March 10

Dear Parents,

The elementary school is humming along.  We surely are busy with International Studies being a huge part of our general focus!  Please read on to hear more about some things that have been happening with some of our students:

Student-led Conferences

The Student / Parent / Teacher Conference were this week Wednesday, 26th February.  Thank you to all who were able to come and hope it was beneficial to you. Feedback on this process is welcomed.

K-Kids / Elementary School Government

This Friday, 28th February was celebrated as Jamaica Day - "Celebrating Jamaica; Sporting Greatness in My Community". The Ministry of Education has advised schools island-wide to recognize this day.  Please come and see AISK Wall of Fame with our Sports Stars on the Elementary School Notice Board.

The Brownies hosted a bake sale and there was also a lunch time concert.

Book Fair

This week AISK hosted it's annual book fair in the Elementary School building for two days.

Students, parents, and teachers were able to purchase books and other literary resources from Scholastic and Novelty Trading Company.

Room 2106 had its quiet moments, but lit up and was buzzing with excitement particularly on day 2.

The school benefits from sales in the form of books from the organizers for our Library.

We are thankful for your support of this venture, and look forward to hosting another book fair next year.  We thank Ms. McKay for having made this possible.

Brownies

For Valentine's Day, the Brownies worked hard to make very cute pencil toppers (and a sweet) for the teaching and administrative staff in the Elementary School.  They brought their smiles and really did help to spread the love.

On Sunday, 23rdFebruary, four (4) girls represented AISK at one of the National Girl Guide Association church services.  Last week was Guide Week and church service events joined to celebrate it.  Our girls were responsible for one section of the programme; the renewal of the Brownie promise, and it was reported that they did very well.

Our partnership with the environmental group continues to go well.  The girls are still managing the used paper-recycling programme well, for which the teachers are most grateful.  Our commitment continues to the Forever Green project, which is an international project, and all is going well.

The Brownie Pack continues to grow but we are always open to new members, ages 7 - 10 years.

A Brownie thinks of others before herself and does a good turn everyday.

Brownie Pack meets every Monday at 2:45pm - 3:45pm in the Elementary activity room.

Garden

The garden continues to provide wonderful fruit and vegetables.  Our Elementary School students helped to harvest tomatoes, cabbage, eggplants and watermelon last week. Our garden is producing lovely vegetables and fruits and continues to teach the children how to eat what they grow.

Dear Parents, Students & Staff,

Reminders

  • Activity Fair - Tuesday March 4th, 07:30-07:50am
  • No Activities until March 17th
I cannot make announcements for the Week Ahead without mentioning the amazing week that just passed. Thank you so much for all those who supported SportsFeva. Many people went above and beyond to ensure our flagship event ran so well.

Blue Mountain Hike

This weekend, please spare a thought for our Blue Mountain hikers, who will be toughing it out in a variety of conditions to 'hopefully' see the sunrise on Saturday morning. Thanks to all the staff and parents, who are giving up their time to make this possible.

Upcoming Activities

I will hopefully be securing the services of qualified track, netball, baseball, film and elementary ballet instructors. Activities are self supporting and may only run if enough interest is shown at the fair. This means that the activities will only run if at least 6 students participates.
