Dear AISK Families,
Shirley Davis remains on the recruitment trail and is attending a conference. She is available by email at sdavis@aisk.com.
Harvard Model United Nations
The following students represented AISK and the country of Hungary at the recent Harvard Model United Nations Conference in Boston:
Ivy Lim Zoe Knowles
Jean-Pierre de Villiers Abigail Wilson
Hee Hye Moon Hugh Jones
Shalini Mohan Amir Hajek
Alejandro Crowther
The students represented themselves, their families and AISK extremely well and are to be congratulated for the fine work they completed at the conference.
In Sylvi Browne's words "I was excited to see Alejandro and Amir already meeting outside of conference times to develop working papers. They are the Hungarian delegates to the EU discussing the democratization to the EU."
Shalini Mohan was one of 16 finalists for the HMUN essay competition. The subject was human trafficking and therefore she had the opportunity to visit the offices of an NGO called the Polaris Project with the other finalists.
We are very impressed by Shalini's achievement. There are approximately 3000 students in this conference and she is one of 16.
Thank you to Sylvi Browne and Nick Lewis for arranging, coaching and chaperoning this event.

Grade 10 Subject Selection for Grade 11
Grade 10 Students will begin the process of selecting their subjects for the next academic year as they move into Grade 11 and the first year of their IB subjects. Students and parents will need to think carefully about the choices and talk them through with the students' teachers. Subject selections are due Tuesday March 4. This gives parents and students the opportunity to make the most of the Parent-Teacher Conferences on February 26. Please click here for events and the process.

Dear Parents,
Sharing some updates on some of the many things happening in the elementary every week. Please also see some reminders herein.
Shirley Davis remains on the recruitment trail and is attending a conference. She is available by email at sdavis@aisk.com.
Elementary School Garden - updates
Reaping Activities
This week, students from Pre-K and Grade Two reaped tomatoes, cabbage and egg plants. These vegetables will be used in class to prepare a dish selected by students and teachers. There are only a few vegetables left for sale and staff members are competing to make purchases.
The children are super excited about harvesting and are ready for us to plant more fruits and vegetables in the coming weeks!
K-Kids Valentine's Day Dress Down
Valentine's Day Dress Down day. Please dress in red, white and/or pink. Contributions of JA$100 made by students will be donated to the JSPCA. There will be a short performance during morning line-up and sweet surprise at the end of the day.
Recycled Newspaper Collection Drive
K-Kids are collecting old newspapers for the JSPCA. You can drop off the newspapers in the boxes labeled outside the classrooms.
Early Childhood Department
The Early Childhood Department would like to thank the Alexander family for their donation of two train tables. We really appreciate the gesture and know it will be enjoyed by all the children.
Brownies Recycling Paper
Our Brownie Pack distributed decorated recycle boxes to representatives of the Elementary classes on Monday. The Brownies have partnered with the Environmental Club to ensure that used paper is not placed in the garbage bin but instead, makes it way to our large paper collection dumpster. Our Brownies will 'lend a hand' by retrieving and emptying each recycle box as needed.
There are plans being made to secure additional plastic recycle drums to reduce the number of plastic bottles that make their way into our garbage bins. Once again, this will be a joint venture with the Environmental Club as they have already secured specially designed and decorated covers with the much-needed drums.
A Brownie thinks of others before herself and does a good turn everyday.
Brownie Pack meets every Monday at 2:45pm - 3:45pm in the Elementary activity room.
After School Pick Up
The end of our school day is 2:30pm, with afterschool activities beginning at 2:45pm onwards.
We are thrilled to have students in activities on and around campus. Please ensure that students are picked up promptly before and after activities.
It is also a great idea to call the school if you are running late so that we can be best informed and direct your child.
As of next week, please collect children who are not in activities but are not picked up by 2:45pm from the room outside of my office - Rm. 2104.

Dear Parents, Students & Staff,
Clayfeva
It's this Sunday! Please get yourselves out to the Jamaica Skeet club in Portmore and support our Super Sharp Shooting Hurricanes as they battle it out against schools such as Hillel, Campion, Wolmers, Jamaica College, Manchester High and Hydel. In the last inter-schools tournament our very own Hugh Jones pushed Hillel's tournament favorite Nicholas Chen to the absolute limit. Can Hugh take the crown for AISK? Please come and check it out between 10am and 1pm. It should be an absolute BLAST! Here are some of our Hurricanes sporting their new Team Clay jerseys:

Hurricanes
The Bahamas are still a fond memory but our games faces are on for SportsFeva! Thursday afternoon, we hosted Kingsway who arrived with both a boys and girls team. Our Hurricanes played magnificently and secured wins in both matches. Here are the match reports:
Coach Ebanks (Boys) - Final Score 4-3
Our guys were in high spirits before the game as we did our pre-game warm up. Going into the game however, we started a little cautiously, as nerves got the best of our players. However, as the game progressed, confidence improved and we managed to score. After the goal, we dominated for the most of the first half, in which we scored another two goals, ending the first half with a score of three to nil (3-0) in our favor. Going into the second half, our momentum was broken as we conceded three goals and it was not until the final moments of the game that we managed to secure the winner. All in all, it was a good display from our team as we showed the determination required to win.
Coach Ransom (Girls) - Final Score 10-1
In the match, the Hurricane girls worked together in their official Soccerfeva teams, performing extremely well. It was a good team effort that contributed to the overall 10-1 score! In addition to this, there were also a number of close goals. We are looking forward to what our girls' teams can achieve in the Soccerfeva tournament!
House Standing
Firstly, I must thank the whole PE team for ensuring House Dodge-ball ran so smoothly, particularly Dexter McFarlane, who arranged the elementary competition and Allan Roper for his work with the MS/HS.
I must also thank all parents and staff, who came out to support these exciting tournaments, it really contributed to the whole vibe of the event.
Last but certainly not least, our students! You were AWESOME! Both events were participated with true sportsmanship, heart and skill. I must congratulate Blue House for earning the spirit points in both competitions today!
Here are the points standing before todays events:
1st BLUE 170
2nd RED 120
3rd YELLOW 120
4th GREEN 80
Points standing after the days events ....
1st RED 270
2nd YELLOW 260
3rd BLUE 240
4th GREEN 180
We need YOU!
AISK has been invited by Campion College to a high school synchronized swim meet. We already have some talented synchro swimmers but could always use more. This event is for fun and creativity, so please get involved! Email me at bransom@aisk.com if you are interested.
General Message
With the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics being shown on TV, it's a perfect time for students to experience the ups and downs of elite performance. See the stories and the hard work that goes into athletes being at the top of their game and discover what the human body can do when coupled with the right amount of hard work and dedication.
Please watch and be inspired to try something new! But of course, not this Sunday... its ClayFeva!
