Hello AISK Parents and Students,

An important letter will be coming on Monday with the calendar for 2014-2015.  In addition, there will be an update on the next academic year.  Please watch for these important announcements.

As the PTO mounts their efforts for Winter Wonderland, spread the word!  Every single dollar goes towards the roof over the basketball court.  In September, the team of parents took a vote and had their eyes set on this project.

Please buy those tickets! Whether you or a student is volunteering, first of all thank you, and secondly, realize this is a donation of your money and your time for a very good cause.

Tanya has tickets in the front office, and they are also on sale at Cannonball and Uncorked.  Homeroom teachers and grade level teachers should have placed all the info in students' hands. Price is $JA2,000 only.  More information is in farther down in this email.

The Winter Wonderland is a time to socialize in a community setting with parents, colleagues, teachers and students.  See you there on January 24!  Let's build that roof!

Sincerely,
Shirley Davis

Dear AISK Families,

Semester Exams

This week, students in Grades 8-12 have been celebrating their learning through writing their Semester exams.  Whilst these tasks are a significant portion of the students' semester grade, it is the work the students do throughout the Quarters that is of the most importance.  For Grade 8 students, the semester exams contribute 10% of their semester grade and for Grades 9-12 the semester exams contribute 20% of their semester's grade.  Students have taken these tasks seriously and the majority of students have arrived in a timely manner.

Semester Reports

The 1st semester ends on Friday, January 17.  Teachers will then be assessing exams and writing reports with the view that parents will receive reports on Friday, January 31.  Please be aware that in the weeks prior to reports going home, PowerSchool will be 'frozen' so teachers can construct reports.

Sincerely,

Susan Canobie
MS/HS Principal

Dear Parents,

Sharing some updates on some of the many things happening in the elementary every week.  Please also see some reminders herein.

K-Kids Fundraising

The K-kids will start collecting old newspapers for THE JAMAICA SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS (JSPCA).  JSPCA is a charity that works hard to protect animals from cruelty, neglect, injury and abandonment. They also defend and promote animal rights. As apart of caring for animals, JSPCA uses lots of newspaper in cages and in the clinic. The K-kids will collect newspaper for the reminder of the year. A large box will be labelled and placed downstairs in front of the K-kids bulletin board. Thanks in advance for your support and we look forward to your weekly donations.

This week, the K-kids offered henna tattoos for J$200-500 to raise money for the JSPCA. Our henna session was well supported and has started a new craze at AISK. Our henna expert, Appa, who is from Pakistan did one-of-a-kind designs. The K-kids worked hard to promote/market our event and are very committed to making a difference. Bravo K-kids, Appa and Mr. Tantary! A big thank you to all who support this event.

Snow Day in PreK

Last Friday, 10th January, PreK is learnt about Weather on the topic of Snow.  This is a hard concept here in sunny Jamaica but we are doing our best.  In addition to ice hockey and snowball fight, PreK built a snowman (ice man).  They observed what happened to him throughout the day.  If you couldn't guess...he melted and FAST.
