Dear AISK Families,

La comida de Espaņa y el mundo hispana

The students in Ms. Omawale's 7th grade classroom made some traditional Spanish and Latin American dishes and shared with their classmates.  Among the dishes were paella, patatas bravas, tejas de almendra y fajitas. The students had a lot of fun and built some cultural connections with their language learning.

Friday lunch concert

Friday during lunch, we had an entertaining concert with our Grade 12 student band as they played a fantastic jamming session.

Sporting Success

MS/HS Girls Soccer Team beat Hillel 5-0 on Tuesday in the girls second away fixture of the season. It was a fantastic atmosphere which was buoyed by the amazing support from AISK parents and students, who traveled on the PEP bus provided.

Frazer McConnell won 4 races in the final day of the Karting season to be crowned Senior Class Champion 2013. William Myers also battled hard in tough races to secure 2nd place in the Junior Class Championship 2013. Keep up the good work in 2014!

Christopher Harper won sailing races in the J22 class and all comers race at the annual Latvian regatta @ The Royal Jamaica Yacht club. It was quite a haul for a weekend of competitive sailing.

Last week, we had three teams though to the National Tennis Championships. It was a difficult competition but all our athletes fought hard and never gave up. We did not make the finals but all teams know they have to continue to play as much tennis as possible in order to compete for the national title. Congratulations for your hard work and good luck for 2014.

House

The day was a great success enjoyed by all. The elementary tournament was electric with excitement from students, teachers and parents alike. We had joint winners for points resulting in a tie between Red & Blue House.

Middle and High School teams played in difficult conditions and the rain did not dampen the atmosphere, it was buzzing. Blue came out on top for points here which sealed their place at the top of house standings:

BLUE - 170 Points
RED & YELLOW - 120 Points
GREEN - 80

Don't panic Green House, we have the dodgeball tournament on January 30th!

Inter-Homeroom

House was fantastic on Thursday but we also enjoyed more soccer after school.

Grades 8 and 9 came out and continued the battle between the Gs and the Bs. In Grade 8, the Gs came back from being 2-0 down to eventually win 4-2 in an exciting match that was fiercely contested.

In Grade 9, the Bs took their chances to win 3-0 but it was a great game containing a display of outstanding saves by the 9B goal keeper, Ryan Wilkinson. This chalked up the first win for the Bs in the soccer series. Both matches were well supported by students, teachers and parents. The fun continued after the competition with some friendly soccer between competitors and supporters. What a great day of sport!

In the inter-homeroom series so far, the score is 3-1 to the Gs

Can the Grades 10s, 11s or 12s make a comeback for the Bs on Monday, after school between 2:50-4:00pm?

Brad Ransom

Athletic Director

The American International School of Kingston hosted Fountas and Pinnell Reading Workshops on the AISK campus on November 18-22.   AISK staff members that participated include:

  • Aimed at improving the reading process within the text, beyond the text, and about the text
This was a great, first time experience for AISK! It was a very enriching experience for teachers in the Elementary and Middle School departments.
