Dear AISK Families,

REPORTS

Families would have received the 1st Quarter Reports on Friday as they were delivered via students.  Please review these reports and the additonal information contained in the envelope.  There is information regarding the AISK electronic homework and information system - Schoology - details for accessing this site are also included.  Information regarding the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences is also included.   The date of these conferences is Friday, November 15 and the process is that parents should make contact with the teachers for convenient times to make their appointments.  At the Middle School and High School, we expect that the student be included in the conference.

HONOR ROLL ASSEMBLY

Please note that our Honor Roll Assembly will be held, Thursday, November 14 starting at 8:00am.  Parents are invited as we celebrate the learning and excellence of our students.

READAK

Readak will be once again joining AISK and the instructor is Alexis Malatesta.  Below is a synopsis of her experience:

"I hail from Boston, MA and am a recent graduate of the University of Vermont. I earned a degree in Secondary Education and worked with Middle School and High School children in various communities around the Burlington, Vermont area.  Through this experience, it became clear how important learning skills are to a student's success, and how many would have benefitted from a programme like Readak.  I became involved with Readak, not only because of my passion for teaching, but because students everywhere deserve to succeed.  I believe the skills this program yields will do just that. I will be hosting a parent information session on Tuesday, November 12th at 8am in the Media Center."

ATTN: GRADE 12 PARENTS

Please see the attached letter for your perusal regarding important dates and deadlines for the students.

Sincerely,
Susan Canobie

INFORMATION THE AISK BROWNIE PACK

October was Girl Guide Cookie Month and the AISK 'One World' Brownie Pack would love to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported this annual fundraiser.  With your help, we were able to raise $23,000, 10% of which goes directly to our Pack for use towards charitable and service ventures within our community.

We are already looking forward to Cookie Month 2014!

Our Pack is pleased to announce that Fia Oliveira and Jellisa Morgan made their Promise at the Girl Guide Association of Jamaica Headquarters on Monday, November 4. We are very proud of our 2 new Brownies and congratulate them on joining the international Guiding family.

Please join us for a day of fun and excitement at the Annual Girl Guide St. Andrew Division Fun Fair on Saturday, November 23 from 9am - 4pm at the GGAJ Headquarter (next to Devon House). Entry tickets are $100! Tickets are available from Tawny Owl, Keisha La Beach or Sprite Sixer, Kela Kai Yen, Pixie Sixer, and Alexcia Boothe .

INFORMATION ON AISK K-KIDS

The K-Kids are off to a great start this quarter.  Our club consists of 12 amazing students, committed to serving the community and making a difference. The activities in our club are geared towards helping students to learn leadership, character building, inclusiveness and how to be thoughtful. So far, we have volunteered to hand out water at Race for Hope, performed at a school event, organized trick or treating at the elementary Halloween event and sold handmade pom-poms and headbands at Jamaica Day.

We look forward to having our first market sale to encourage healthy eating on Friday, November 22nd and hosting a henna tattoo party in the near future. We are also working towards making a donation to the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) and will visit their facility on Thursday, November 14th.

SCHOLASTIC INTERNATIONAL BOOK CLUB ORDERS

Catalogs were distributed to all classes over a week ago, and we'd love for all students and parents interested to benefit from this offer. See attached the guidelines, which were sent out via constant contact last week. If anyone is in need of a catalog, please see Ms. McKay, our librarian.

All orders should be placed online using the website:

 Dear Parents, Students & Staff,

TEAM AISK

Please come out and support AISK on Sunday at the Digicel Cup Inter-schools Clay Tournament at Jamaica Skeet Club, starting at 9:00 am. We have 17 student athletes shooting and it is sure to be a 'banging' atmosphere!

CALLING ALL SWIMMERS

I am trying to revive an AISK swim team and will need your help. I am trying to collate a list of swimmers with the hope of entering inter-school competitions. We are also trying to encourage new swimmers to join our "learn to swim" program, which will facilitate a transition to the competitive swimming program.

We will definitely need a parent or two, passionate about swimming to be our team coach/managers. This will be an important factor in creating a buzz for swimming.

BIG THANKS

A huge "Thank you" to parent, Mr. Dennis Jones, who has taken on the role as coach/manager for the Elementary Girls Football Team. Their first tournament is being planned and the girls are extremely excited!

HOUSE

The first house event of the year will be Football, to be held on Thursday, 21st of November. More details will be announced next week.

ACTIVITIES

Next week is the final week of our first block of activities (week 10 of block A).

November 18th-26th will be a break in activities and sign up opportunities for block B activities.

Week 1 of block B activities will commence after Thanksgiving on December 2nd.

Taekwondo

Monday, we are very fortunate to have secured the services of Mr. Conrad Jenkins, who will be running 'Experience Taekwondo' with selected PE classes throughout the day. These taster sessions will hopefully drive interest for after-school Taekwondo which would start after Thanksgiving.

Mr Jenkins has vast experience as coach, referee and mentor to his athletes, believing in a holistic approach to each individual. This entails focussed communication with student, parents & teachers. If grades are down, Coach Jenkins will find out!
