Grade 5 Matters - Readak and Drug Awareness
This is a reminder that Readak (reading, test taking and study help program) will start on Saturday, November 16 and run through to Thursday, December 12.
Last Thursday, our grade 5 students were a part of the drug awareness presentation made by AISK parents, who work with the US mission here in Kingston. This, as a part of our continued commitment to providing students with the best possible base of knowledge for life skills and making informed choices.
Michael Holding at AISK
This legendary West Indian cricketer most graciously accepted an invitation to visit our school. The elementary grades 3-5 students spent time questioning Mr. Holding about his career - past, present and future. The students participated enthusiastically, learning a lot about what it takes to become a dedicated and successful sportsman.
Background and updates from Elementary Student Government (ESG)
Elementary Student Government (ESG) helps to share students' ideas, interests and concerns with teachers and the Principal. We raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events to build school spirit, community projects and to help people in need. In ESG, there are two representatives from each grade two to grade five classroom. Their classmates elect these student representatives. This body consists of a President, a Vice President, Secretary and a Treasurer.
For the first quarter in the school year, we, the ESG collaborated with Kiwanis Kids in selling pom poms and handmade crafts for Jamaica Day. We also assisted in planning and organizing the Halloween fair and will have our upcoming annual stuffed toys drive in December which will be our main charity event for this school year.
Sincerely,
Anna Thwaites-Wallace
Elementary Principal
