Dear All,

The committee for Sportsfeva, which is a school-wide event for AISK and other schools in the Caribbean spoke with the AISK Board Tuesday morning.  In the past, many sponsors have stepped up to take on the financial sponsorship.  Due to the lagging economy, the sponsors are finding it hard to participate and underwrite the amounts of money it takes to run a whole month of events.  Despite the hard efforts of the committee and all their passion, a decision had to be made to cancel Sportsfeva for this year. The only way to push forward was to draw funds from the school's budget, which would have been outside the budgetary guidelines as set for 2013-2014. The school is exploring ways to pursue some of the events of Sportsfeva, but in a different form.

AISK is always seeking opportunities to keep students active and engaged in the sports and fine arts with Jamaica Day on Thursday; and a talent show which is being planned for the students in Elementary through to High School.  The Activities and Athletics Director is also working with local schools and AISK teachers/coaches to find ways to broaden all types of participation. Other events that are coming up is our Annual Halloween Fair, which is renown in the community as a great event. This year it will be extended to Middle and High School students.

As is our ambit, we will continue to host trademark and new events both on our campus and in our extended community. As always, your suggestions and thoughts are welcomed.

October 18 and 21 - No School - Heroes Day

November 1 - AISK Halloween Party

Sincerely,

Dear Families of Middle/High School,

It is a busy time for everyone at the moment and we are all appreciative of the long weekend break.

I hope you all enjoyed the presentations in the Media Center on Jamaica Day and the work that our students are doing to celebrate and interact with Jamaica.

We have our AISK College Fair next week, Thursday October 24.  Please check the attached flyer and see the times for each grade.  Parents are encouraged to attend and talk with the Admissions Officers of the 32 colleges and universities who will be on campus.

Readak will return to AISK in November.  They conduct courses for our students to help them to improve the way they learn, read, study and take examinations.  Please see the attached letter, application form and flyers for more information. Courses will begin November 16 and will run through to December 12.

Students are working hard and October 25th is the end of the 1st Quarter.  Please speak to your child about the importance of completing work as it shows their best effort and understanding so they can attain a level of excellence in education.

Sincerely,

Susan Canobie

Dear Families of Elementary School,

The Jamaica Day Celebration and Jamaican Studies were thoroughly enjoyed and brought the campus alive. It was pleasing and informative to see students showcase the learning that they have immersed themselves in over the past few weeks. We have done justice in celebrating our host country through learning.

Dear AISK Families,

Girls Football Success

Good Morning,

Just in case you could not hear all the whooping and cheering from our supporters last night, I will bring you up to speed. The AISK girls won another match against another strong opponent. Immaculate Conception, which started very well, scored a goal early in the first half of the game but all this did was fire up our Hurricanes. The girls managed to make a come back, defeating Immaculate Conception 4-1, with a hat-trick (three goals) from Juliana James and one from Mikki Charles. It was a solid team performance that demonstrated outstanding team spirit and determination to win. Everyone played well and the goal scorers are duly noted but the 'talk of the terrace' was Sarah Garnett, whose work rate, organization and desire to be first to every ball was "awesome".

It has been a great start to the season so please congratulate the girls listed below and give them a boost!

Under 13 Boys

When you get a chance please congratulate the team for a fantastic win on Monday against Suthermere Prep School. In difficult conditions due to heavy rain earlier in the day, The Hurricanes still managed to play free flowing football and create many chances. After this 2-1 victory and a solid team performance they can look forward to their next game with confidence.

AISK Synchro Swim Team

Newcomers to AISK, Christine O'Brien and Sarah Joy Whittaker participated in the solo competition and our duets Alex Loughlin and Brittany Durrant; and Alexa Legault and Phillipa Ryan earned a triumphant second, giving AISK a 2nd place overall!  Congratulations to our syncho 'stars'!
