News of Note:

  1. FY12 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants NOFA:  On February 29, 2012, HUD published the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the FY2012 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants, making available approximately $5 million.  Grants may be up to $300,000 each, with 17-20 grant awards expected.  Applications are due on May 1, 2012.  Awards will be made by the end of September.  The NOFA and application package are available through www.grants.gov.
  2. Applications for MTW Demonstration. PIH Notice 2012-16 has been posted and is available here.  The notice advertises four available MTW slots and outlines requirements of the application process.  PHAs that are currently designated as high performers and administer no more than 5,000 units of aggregate housing vouchers and public housing units may apply. A summary of the Notice is available here.  The deadline is June 27, 2012.
  3. Free HUD Preservation Training: HUD is hosting a series of "Partners in Housing" training sessions to provide information to owners regarding refinancing tools, expiring mortgages, renewal of HAP contracts, etc. to encourage the preservation of the portfolio.  These workshops are free and will be held April 10-12 in Philadelphia; April 24-26 in Atlanta; May 8-10 in Kansas City; May 22-24 in Denver, June 5-7 in Chicago, June 12-14 in Los Angeles; June 19-21 in Boston.  A virtual broadcast will be offered June 26-28.  To reserve a spot, call (301) 772-1157, or go to http://tdpsvs.com/hud.

This Notice provides guidance on actions public housing agencies (PHAs) administering the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program may take to streamline administrative practices and reduce administrative costs.


Request for Applications under the Moving to Work Demonstration Program for Fiscal Year 2011

This notice offers eligible public housing agencies (PHAs) the opportunity to apply for admission to the Moving to Work (MTW) demonstration program.

 

Guidelines on Bedbug Control and Prevention in Public Housing

PIH 2012-17

Issued: Feb. 28, 2012
Expires: Effective until amended, superseded, or rescinded

Bedbug infestations have become a serious problem in housing throughout the country. Public Housing properties are not immune to infestations. This Notice provides information and references to best practices regarding the prevention and control of bedbug infestations. It also provides guidance on the rights and responsibilities of HUD, Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and tenants with regard to bedbug infestations.
