MCAS Quarterly Newsletter
|
|
Welcome to the 4th edition of the Multnomah County Animal Services quarterly e-newsletter where you'll receive updates about all the things we're doing in our unique open-door shelter.
We appreciate your support and we want to keep you in the loop about the gains we've made in caring for our community's lost, abandoned, and abused animals. We hope to use this newsletter to share our success stories and let you know how your license fees support the shelter.
This edition includes news about our neighborhood cat adoption partners, our upcoming ad campaign, and several happy endings at the MCAS shelter. We hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share it or pass it along to the other animal people in your life!

Ad Campaign: I Want You
| MCAS just launched a big, new ad campaign on October 15th which will run through mid-November. This campaign was funded entirely through private donations to our adoption outreach trust fund.
The goal is to foster greater awareness of MCAS in the community we serve. It will also allow us to promote adoptions at our new neighborhood cat adoption partners. Expect to see billboards, bus shelter ads, web ads and print ads in several local publications.

A Happy Ending for Rhino
| You might remember Rhino from the news. Back in May of this year, he sustained injuries when the car he was tied to began driving away while he was still tied to it. The parties involved in that incident were acquitted of criminal charges at the end of July. Since the time of of the incident, MCAS staff had been in touch with Rhino's original owner, Nicolas M. We learned that Nicolas was forced to re-home Rhino. From there, Rhino was re-homed again-- the last home was with the people involved in the incident. After two long months in the intake kennels here at the MCAS shelter, we're happy to announce that Rhino went home with Nicolas. Both Rhino and Nicolas were overjoyed to see each other again. |

Reunion Highlights
| We see a lot of happy stories here at the shelter. When we have rescue and reunion stories that are really remarkable, we like to share them with supporters.
Gwendolyn
Recently, Multnomah County Animal Services was thrilled to reunite a cat named Gwendolyn with her owners after being missing for 4 years. Thanks to a microchip, we were able to track down Laura B. and her daughter Ariel, both of whom were heartbroken when Gwendolyn went missing. Although Gwendolyn has developed some health problems during her 4 year absence, they were very happy to be able to take her home where she will live out her life, loved and well cared for.
Bailey
On the afternoon of September 5th, a vacationer from Sioux Falls, South Dakota brought in a cat that he found at Timothy Lake (on the north side of Mt Hood). Fortunately, the cat had a microchip and MCAS was able to quickly and easily obtain the cat owner's contact information. It turned out that the cat's owners live in Donald, Oregon. And apparently, the cat (named Bailey) is an indoor-only cat who had never been outside. After escaping from her home, it seems Bailey climbed into a neighbor's boat to hide and inadvertently made the trip to Timothy Lake with the boat's owners. Thanks to a microchip and a good samaritan, we were able to reunite Bailey with her owners just a few hours after she came into the shelter. Needless to say, they were very happy to have Bailey back, safe and sound. Microchips and pet licenses help us reunite lost pets with owners every week. You can license your pets on the MultCoPets.org web site and a microchip can easily be implanted by your veterinarian. |

Available for Adoption: Niblet
| Hi, my name is Niblet! I am a pretty little flame-point Siamese who is dainty and shy. I was living with my person in a senior center but he passed away and I was brought here. I would love to have a nice quiet home with a nice quiet family who has no dogs. I am declawed, so I must stay inside. You will love my big blue eyes, my cute habit of rolling around when you pet me, my tidy house manners, and my soft bunny fur. Please see my web profile to find out where you can meet me. I am 10-years-old. |
