Daytona State College student groups will come together on Monday, Sept. 22, for a public event to help raise awareness about mesothelioma and honor the memory of Dr. Rick Doolin, a popular science professor who was taken by a rare form of the disease this summer.

The Meso Con Superhero & Sci-Fi Fest will feature games, prizes, food, fun and a cosplay/best t-shirt contest, according to Kristin Mixell, event organizer and DSC instructor. The event, free and open to the public, will be held in The Landing on the college's Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
