Daytona State College offers lifeguarding course
Feb. 12-17
Lifeguarding courseFor seasonal or career opportunity, the American Red Cross-certified lifeguarding course at Daytona State College provides training to help individuals develop rescue skills and learn First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to prevent accidents through knowledge of lifeguarding, proper use of equipment and understanding responsibilities.
 
The course begins on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. with a required pre-test consisting of a 300-yard continuous swim, a timed swim of 20 yards followed by a surface dive to recover a 10-pound brick and return to start point, and two minutes of treading water.
 
Successful participants will then begin the class with three hours of instruction from 6 to 9 p.m. The course continues on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 1 to 7 p.m. Course fee is $225 and requires a $75 non-refundable deposit due by Feb. 8.
 
The American Red Cross-certified lifeguarding course consists of classroom and pool time, and will be held on the college's Daytona Beach Campus, Lemerand Center (Bldg 310), Aquatic Center, located at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd.

Water Aerobics
Our water exercise program provides a total body workout for those of beginner to advanced fitness levels. Classes include exercises for aerobic conditioning, flexibility, and strength training. Aqua Aerobics offers a safe and refreshing way to exercise for all ages.

 

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 12:30-1 p.m., cost is $3 per class, or purchase a $30 aqua punchcard and get one class free!

This water exercise program provides a vigorous water workout for those of advanced fitness levels. Classes include exercises for aerobic conditioning, flexibility, and strength training. Aqua Aerobics offers a safe and refreshing way to exercise for all ages. Cost $33 for 11 classes (pre-payment required).
