Happy April! (no foolin')
Did you know that April 10-16 is National Volunteer Week? Newporters are expert volunteers! Most events on this Island could not, would not, happen without them! But maybe you are looking to change it up and / or want to do something beyond selling drink tickets under a regatta tent? If so, take a look at Serve Rhode Island, an organization that aggregates volunteer opportunities state-wide. You can register your skills and preferences on their website to be alerted to volunteer opportunities of possible interest to you. In the meantime, let's all lend a hand at Save the Bay's Earth Day Clean-up at Easton's Beach on 4/23!
Best, SallyAnne_/)

all ears
This month-- so many shows, too little time-- and hard choices must be made! The Narrow's Center for the Arts April schedule features Mike Zito and the Wheel on 4/1, Rhett Miller (of the Old 97's) on 4/2 and a Blues Brunch with The Sons of Providence on 4/3. On 4/7, it's The Milk Carton Kids, on 4/9 Aztec Two-Step and on 4/22 The Smithereens. Robben Ford returns to the Narrows with Guitar Army featuring Lee Roy Parnell and Joe Robinson on 423, The Subdudes play on 4/27 and Janiva Magness on 4/29. Common Fence Music hosts the 17th Annual Gathering of Fiddlers & Fishermen with Ilana Katz Katz, (not a typo ;-) MC on 4/2, John Gorka on 4/16 and Ana Egge on 4/23. And finally, I have only just learned about a new, (local-ish) music venue in East Greenwich-- The Odeum! This 90-year old, 400+ seat Vaudeville house re-opened in 2014 and has already presented Tom Rush and Jorma. This month Roger McGuinn takes the stage on 4/9 and Playing Dead rolls over on 4/16. I can't wait to check this place out! p.s. The Odeum needs volunteers too ;-)
