Welcome March...

Hooray! This month we'll enjoy longer days after the clocks spring forward on 3/13 and the Vernal Equinox passes on 3/20. But it's the Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade, on Saturday, 3/12, that really signals the start of the spring season for Newporters.

Although it is not billed as such, I notice that the Narrows Center is hosting a number of Jerry Garcia's musical collaborators this month-- nice!

Irish Blessing Newport Irish Heritage hosts numerous events this month highlighted by the 60th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on 3/12, which is always held rain or shine!  The Museum of Newport Irish History Interpretive Center will be open to visitors from 12N-4pm on 3/5, 3/11, 3/12, 3/13, 3/19, 3/20, and 3/27.

Enjoy Traditional Irish Music Sessions this month (and every month) with the South Coast Rovers on Sundays (from 5pm-9pm) at the Fastnet Pub.

Downton Abbey Mary and Violet The Jane Picken's Theater hosts Desserts for Downton, the grand finale of Downton Abbey* on 3/6. The Lady in the Van continues through 3/4 and the Academy Award winning Best Picture, Spotlight returns for 2 special screenings on 3/4 and 3/5. The Newport Public Library's film series features Grumpy Old Men on 3/4 and Grumpier Old Men on 3/18.

Melvin Seals The Narrow's Center for the Arts this month has many excellent shows, including a number of past Jerry Garcia collaborators. Among them are JGB (Jerry Garcia Band) featuring Melvin Seals on 3/2 and (Steve) Kimock on 3/19. Charlie Musselwhite on 3/11, Leo Kottke on 3/12 and Kimock John Mayall on 3/27 roundout the all-star schedule along with Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds on 3/10 and Sam Admindon & Glenn Kotche (of Wilco) on 3/17-- wowee!

Common Fence Music hosts David Wilcox (at Channing Church, Newport) on 3/5 and Cricket Blue opens for Mo Kenny on 3/19.
