Here they come!
The Volvo Ocean Race boats are just a few days away. Years of planning, imagination, know-how and hard work by Sail Newport and Discover Newport along with hundreds of volunteers are bringing this event to a spectacular fruition in our hometown! Sailors crossing oceans and braving nature's challenges in the ultimate sailing race are predicted to arrive between May 6-8. The next 2 weeks will be incredible, so be sure to get out, welcome the boats and sailors as they arrive (get text alerts here) and experience the entire event at the Volvo Ocean Race Village at Fort Adams. There is truly something for everyone and admission is FREE. Do not miss the ONLY North American stopover of this extreme sailing event. I will see you there!

Volumes are written daily about the Volvo Ocean Race, but by far, the most compelling accounts are those coming directly from the boats. I direct you to Team Alvimedica's Onboard Reporter blog by Amory Ross. Amory, a Newport local, is sailing in his second Volvo Ocean Race. His thoughtful way of sharing the entire first-hand experience through his award-winning photography and expressive writing have been one of the highlights of the event for many including myself. Please read, enjoy and share!
