Happy New Year!

Have you made any resolutions? While mixing up this January issue I scrolled through my subscriber list and was inspired by the long roll call of talented and creative folks that I am honored to call my lemonheads. That's when my 2014 resolution sprouted: to cultivate more INTERACTION with and among you.

Here's how we'll start:
  • I'll plant a "lemon seed" link to an item that I hope will be of interest to you all
  • You'll click through to check it out
  • IF interested, you will please water the seed by SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS
  • Voila! we'll "Discuss Among Ourselves!"

To kick this off, the January lemon seed is CREATIVITY itself.

It gets a little lonely picking, squeezing and mixing all of this good news on my own each month, so I truly hope to hear from many of you at my lemon seed project on facebook.

Wishing each of you a happy, healthy & creative new year!

 and if you please...

"My online dictionary says that "create" means to bring into existence something that is new, something that did not exist before. We often imagine creators as solitary individuals struggling against great odds, trying mightily to craft new inventions, music, or art that is novel, fresh, unique. We assume that prior training and skills are crucial in the creative process. Someone who doesn't know... continue reading.

Sarah and the Tall Boys TODAY! Turn off your computer and go hear Sarah and the Tall Boys from 1pm-6pm at the Narragansett Cafe!  We caught her opening for Nick Lowe last fall, this girl rocks! Also featured at the 'Ganny this week are Full Circle on 1/3, Fat City Band on 1/4 and Duke Robillard Band on 1/5.

Marshall Crenshaw This month's highlights the Narrow's Center for the Arts include Chris Smither on 1/3, Johnny Winter on 1/4, Joe Ely on 1/7 and Marshall Crenshaw & The Bottle Rockets on 1/23. The Narrows Winter Blues Festival on 1/25 features 5 acts with 7 hours of music by Joe Louis Walker, Jesse Dee, The Holmes Brothers, Cedrick Brunside Project and the Delta Gnerators. Doors at 4, downbeat at 5 (alledgedly ;-)

South Coast Rovers Common Fence Music continues this month with John Gorka on 1/11, and a Gathering of Fiddlers & Fishermen with MC Tom Duksta on 1/25. And don't forget to meet 'round the pot belly stove with a pint on Sunday evenings from 5pm-9pm with the South Coast Rovers Irish Sessions at the Fastnet Pub. Also on Sundays the new Portsmouth Publik House at Clock Tower Square has a sweet open mic from 2pm-5pm, you may just see someone you know there!
Now, I don't normally recommend bands that I have never even heard of, but here is one whose review had so many points of interest that I couldn't resist...

"Brooklyn-based Americana/Alt-Country band YARN's sound owes as much to Gram Parsons and Earl Scruggs as to Jerry Garcia and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. Much like its name, the band Yarn weaves country, rock, blues and more into a genre-defying blend that has captured the attention of fans and critics alike. Following in a fine tradition that includes forward thinking roots bands like The Flying Burrito Brothers and New Riders of The Purple Sage. Yarn weaves roots music idioms into a fresh sound that turns on hipsters and fans of country music alike, with technically impressive song-crafting and universal tales from the road of life."

I wonder how did they break into my iTunes? Anyway, they had me at Gram Parsons, see you at the Narrows on 1/30!
