Here comes sunshine...

Wake up! It's time to shake off the snowy, sleepy wintertime and get ready for sunny days ahead. The Vernal Equinox on 3/20 marks the official start of Spring, but spinning the clock hands forward on 3/10 will give us an extra hour of daylight each afternoon. And here in Newport, we'll welcome the the first signs of the season with the appearance of crocus, daffodils and 57th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on 3/15. Take some time to enjoy it all...

Best,

Prospero's Books
Each of our libraries have great free events this month. At the Redwood Library, a screening of Prospero's Books will be held on 3/2 at 2pm. The film, features Sir John Gielgud as Prospero, the exiled Duke from Shakespeare's Tempest. At the center of this screen version of the play is a library on an island where Prospero uses his books and knowledge to tame the wild, primordial surroundings. The film addresses themes of fate, shipwrecks, exile, mind over matter, and the library as a beacon of order in an otherwise unformed, chaotic world. Written and directed by Peter Greenaway in 1991, the film is rated R, so you'd better get a sitter.  All month at the Newport Public Library, you can view the Island Photography Group's Spring Exhibit, open daily during regular library hours.
