We Care
To raise money for the Amanda Riley Foundation, Broncos took the Whipping Childhood Cancer Whipped Pie Challenge, including our girls' and boys' cross country teams, softball, volleyball, and a group of staff members. Additional donations during Guided Study and t-shirt sales in The Commons brought to total to $10,000.

Student members of BOSS participated in Chick-fil-A's "Packing 1 Million Meals" program, constructing nearly 100 meals for charity. BOSS is Brookwood's contingent of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy and stands for Brookwood Organization of Servant Students. Its 40 members are handpicked by Brookwood teachers and coaches.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) collected  coloring books and crayons valued at $1350 to give to Gwinnett Medical Center for its young patients.

A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL FORD

Greetings!

This fall, we have noticed an uptick of good deeds around campus and an emphasis on what it means to be a Brookwood Upstander.

In September alone, our school raised more than $10,000 for the Amanda Riley Foundation. We donated $1,800 to Helping Hands & Hearts, the amount we collected in fees from the homecoming dance coat check. We also held collection drives valued at $4,500 in school supplies, coloring books, crayons and gently used shoes. Our goal for the 2015-16 year is to surpass last year's $100K Challenge and to outperform our friendly rival North Gwinnett High School.

Mr. Ford presents a gift to "Q" Crane,
the inspiring guest speaker at our October faculty meeting.
Beyond monetary donations, we encourage upstanding behavior toward each other. This month, our Peer Leaders created the "BARK" campaign, which stands for Brookwood Acts of Random Kindness.  Students post photos of their good deeds on social media with grade-designated hashtags, #BARK9 through #BARK12. The photos also appear in Brookwood's morning show for recognition and inspiration. Our volleyball team has already taken action; when they bought pizzas for their opponent's bus ride home, they tweeted a picture with BARK hashtags, turning a good meal and a good deed into a good example for some of our other teams.

October promises to be another upstanding month. We have the Art Club's silent auction of decorated pumpkins on display in the Media Center, a co-op pumpkin sale at Cannon Methodist Church, SGA's annual Haunted F-Hall, an in-school United Way campaign, and a canned food drive. Faculty Blue Jeans Days occur without fanfare but have a history of raising $6,500 for charities. Jeans take on a new meaning here.

Thank you for supporting our early-semester fundraisers.  We appreciate all that we do for Brookwood High School.

Go Broncos!

William Bo Ford, Jr.
