Spanish Club Learns the Salsa & Other Latin Dances

With help from BHS Dance Teacher Ellen McCollister, Spanish Club students lined up to learn the salsa and other Latin dances.  This is the fifth year the group held this event and their numbers have tripled.  The students danced for nearly an hour before club sponsors dished out taco salad to reward the students. We are pleased to see interest in culture, in addition to what is being taught in the Spanish classroom during the school day.

A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DEES

Greetings!

October was packed full of activities to keep our students busy and engaged. The highlight was Homecoming Spirit Week. Students dressed in themed costumes each day of the week, with many teachers joining in the fun. Later in the week, we took in the Mr. Brookwood show and had a pep rally in the stadium for the entire student body. On Friday afternoon, the community lined the streets around school to enjoy the homecoming parade. But, nothing felt more like Homecoming than a night of football in Brookwood Community Stadium, where we crowned the royalty at halftime.  The week was topped off with a dance in the Commons Area on Saturday night.

Fall sports are winding down, but some big cross country meets and the Brookwood-Grayson football game are coming up. In addition, we have several exciting performing arts productions, including the fall dance show this weekend and Raggedy Ann and Andy in mid-November. I hope to see you at a game or a show soon.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have sent me well wishes as I move into a new position with GCPS. There is much to do before I pack my office. I expect to be at Brookwood during the month of November and will spend that time making sure there is a smooth transition for Brookwood's new principal.

Warmly,

Debbie

Academic Team Brings Home County Championship
As county champions, the team earned a spot on WSB-TV's High-Q program.

Our Academic Team won the Gwinnett County Championship held at Brookwood.  The team finished 5-0 in the prelims, then went on to defeat North Gwinnett in the semi-finals and Norcross in the finals.  Norcross ended our 14-year streak as champions back in 2011 and won again last year as well.  Hopefully this marks the beginning of a new streak and we can keep the championship trophy where it belongs!
