Greetings!

As the assistant principal over assessment, one of my responsibilities is to analyze and review data on our students.  Recently I've noticed some positive and interesting trends in college entrance examinations.

Looking at the average SAT scores from our Class of 2013, it's hard not to be impressed.  The average score from the top 10% of our testers was 2080 out of a possible 2400.  Even more remarkable is the average score for the top 50% of our test takers, an incredible 1831.  These scores come with great commitment to education from the student, teacher and parent alike.  One way to prepare for the SAT is to take the PSAT, which most BHS students do.

Over eighteen hundred Broncos are registered to take the PSAT on October 16 during periods 1-3.  This represents the most in school history.  Per the College Board, among high schools in the State of Georgia, Brookwood's Class of 2013 had the highest number of students taking the SAT. We all know that college might not be in the immediate future for everyone; however, these stats prove that most Brookwood students do pursue a higher education.  According to our most recent senior exit survey, upon graduation, 89% of students were planning to attend college or a post-secondary school.  Eighty-eight percent of that group planned to attend a four-year university and, to top that off, 28% of our senior class reported acquiring some type of scholarship money.

As an excellent source, our counseling office offers programs, advice and resources to educate students on the post high school options available to them. Counselors can, among other duties, assist students and parents in all things related to gaining college acceptance as well as current job field related information.  Please do not hesitate to contact them using the email links below or at 678-344-2603.

I'm proud when those at the top of the class continue on to elite schools, but I'm just as excited when most Brookwood students have college options from which to choose.  Over and over, when Brookwood graduates come back to visit, they tell us how well prepared they were for what came after high school. If one of our jobs as a school and community is to prepare students to pursue their dreams, in whatever avenue they desire, we are succeeding.

Sincerely,

Dr. Russell Nicometi

Assistant Principal

P.S. Brookwood has an excellent reputation for preparing highly qualified students for college.  We've recently been told by the admission offices at UGA, Georgia Tech and GCSU that Brookwood ranks fourth among all high schools in the number of enrolling freshmen coming into those universities.

College Reps to Visit Brookwood

The counseling office organizes college reps to visit Brookwood. Interested students may speak with admission personnel from these colleges.  Students should come by the counseling office (A1) to request a pass prior to the day of the visit.
