Students Against Destructive Decisions Club Receives Grant from Governor's Office of Highway Safety
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has awarded a $2,500 grant to Brookwood's Students Against Destructive Decisions Club (SADD) to promote prevention, intervention and awareness of issues concerning underage drinking, drug use and other destructive decisions. SADD plans to use the grant to fund programs such as Red Ribbon Week and Operation Drive Smart. In addition, grant money will be used to obtain speakers, videos, and motivational literature to encourage positive peer pressure and leadership. With this grant, SADD will offer life lessons that will enable students to continue to make healthy and positive decisions long after graduation. |

| | The Homecoming Parade was so much fun. You have to love a parade where cluster Teachers of the Year are the dignitaries! |
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DEBBIE DEES
Greetings!
October was packed full of activities to keep our students busy and engaged. The highlight was Homecoming Spirit Week. Students dressed in themed costumes each day of the week, with many teachers joining in the fun. I'm not sure how the PSAT always seems to coincide with "Nerd Day," but it's practically a tradition now.
Later in the week, we took in the Mr. Brookwood show and had a pep rally in the stadium for the entire student body. On Friday afternoon, the community lined the streets around school to enjoy the homecoming parade.
But, nothing feels more like Homecoming than a night of football in Brookwood Community Stadium, where we crowned the royalty at halftime. The week was topped off with a dance in the Commons Area on Saturday night. A special thanks to the 100 teacher chaperones for the event.
Fall sports are winding down, but some big cross country meets and the Brookwood-Grayson football game are coming up. I heard some fans parked more than a mile away from the Grayson stadium for last year's game. These are the stories we will be telling for years to come.
In addition, we have several performing arts productions in the coming weeks. I am personally looking forward to the musical production, Working. Some of our students brought home awards when a portion was performed at One Act Competition. It is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
I hope to see you at a game or a show soon. When the community and the school connect, students benefit.
Warmly,
Debbie |

HHH Benefits from Pumpkin Auction & Homecoming Coat Check
During October, Art Club and the National Art Honor Society held its annual Pumpkin Auction. In a silent auction, staff bid on pumpkins cleverly created by students. The auction raised $500. Proceeds went to Brookwood's Helping Hands & Hearts campaign to help those in need in the cluster. In addition, all of the $900 raised at the Homecoming coat check at the Homecoming Dance went to the HHH campaign. |

We Entertain
| | Reed Cowan is Mr. Brookwood |
Mr. Brookwood Pageant Entertains Each year during Homecoming Spirit Week, senior boys try to wow the crowds at the Mr. Brookwood pageant. To compete for the top prize, the guys are judged on a group dance, formal wear modeling, a talent and answers to pageant-style questions. This year, Reed Cowan took home the crown. Mr. Cowan's talent? A rendition of Shakira's Hips Don't Lie. Rounding out the top five finishers were Josh Carey, Danny Hawkins, Omari Yassa and Jared Munday. |
