"Resurrection Facts"

Resurrection Sunday is a day of profound joy and celebration as we turn from the cross to stand and gaze at an empty tomb and hear proclaimed the most amazing news for all ages: "He is not here; he has risen!" (Luke 24:6).  Resurrection Sunday is also a day for us to acknowledge several objective facts:
  1. Jesus died on a Roman cross by crucifixion;
  2. Jesus was buried in a tomb not far from the crucifixion site;
  3. Jesus' death threw his disciples into a state of despair and despondency;
  4. Jesus tomb was discovered to be empty shortly after His burial;
  5. They looked for his body, but weren't able to find it and it still hasn't been found 2000 years later;
  6. The disciples had real genuine experiences that convinced them beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus had risen from the dead;
  7. Their experience caused them to go in some cases, like that of Peter, from being cowards to being bold witnessed of Jesus to the point of death;and
  8. The resurrection was key to the birth of the church and the church has grown and is still growing worldwide based upon the resurrection.

We celebrate these facts on Resurrection Sunday, however as believers, our faith shouldn't be based solely upon the facts, but most importantly upon our own personal experience with the Lord.  Indeed, this is what the Apostle Paul spells out in the 15th Chapter of his letter to the church at Corinth (I Corinthians 15:1-10).  He shares facts about Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, but most importantly he also shares that he's experienced the Lord Jesus Christ for himself!

Our challenge on this Resurrection Sunday, and each and every day, is to be like the Apostle Paul and to accept the challenge of having a daily, personal experience with the Lord.  Our calling is to make Jesus' story our story.   We do this, as we've studied over the past several weeks, by understating the Disciples Cross -- that being a disciple means to: abide in Jesus; live in His word; pray in faith; fellowship with other Christians; witness to the world; and undertake a ministry of compassion to all!
Happy Resurrection Sunday!
