The Pastor's Weekly Message

"BELIEF"

On this Sunday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network, a documentary will air entitled "BELIEF,"and I encourage you to watch this 7-night series as it will talk about faith as practiced through the world.

As believers in Christ Jesus, it is important for us to understand what we believe and how this compares and contrasts to what others believe.  During each night of the BELIEF documentary (Oct. 18th-24th), there will be 3-4 personal stories of believers, told through their own eyes and lives. Viewers will get to see what makes people of faith so strong; how belief systems are distinct; how faith can be a tool of healing and peacemaking; and the basic humanity that binds us together.

But what is it that we as Baptists believe?  Among the core elements of our faith, we believe that:
  • Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, and that the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God that serves as the final written authority for living out the Christian faith.
  • There is one God who reveals himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that the committed individual Christian can and should approach God directly.
  • The local church is the fundamental unit of mission and decision-making in denominational life and that the church partakes of two ordinances: Believers' Baptism and The Lord's Supper.
  • We have been called to be Christ's witnesses for justice and wholeness within a broken society and to make disciples of all people.
  • Jesus Christ will come again to judge the nations and that there will be a resurrection of the just and the unjust - the just for blessedness and reward.
Peace and Blessings,
Pastor Kip Banks, Sr.
