Sidewalk CPR Training

Thursday, June 4, 2015

Picture of a re-enactment of Fire Department Officials performing CPR on a victim along the side of a street

The South Pasadena Fire Department  will provide free hands-only CPR training on Sidewalk CPR Day, Thursday, June 4, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Fire Station, 817 Mound Avenue. Last year, more than 17,000 people in Southern California learned how to save a life in just five minutes with a quick lesson from local firefighters and medical professionals.

Learning hands-only CPR helps local emergency responders by focusing on the first few critical minutes following a cardiac arrest.  Since the lungs and blood contain only enough oxygen to keep vital organs healthy for that amount of time bystanders become heroes until emergency responders arrive on scene. With each chest compression using hands-only CPR, ordinary citizens can easily provide the ongoing blood flow needed to give the patient a much better chance of survival once responders arrive.

Only 32 percent of victims receive CPR from a bystander. Don't be a bystander in a cardiac emergency - be a lifesaver! For more information about this upcoming training, click here or contact the on-duty Fire Captain at (626) 403-7305.

How Can We Help You Conserve Water?
How can the City Help you Conserve Water? - See the City's website for tips and information on how to conserve water!

The City of South Pasadena needs to reduce water consumption by 28%. In order to meet this State mandate, everyone needs to do their part. A single family residence using 40 CCF's (1 CCF = 748 gallons) of water or less every billing cycle (two month) is doing a good job.

For those looking for easy ways to conserve, implement one or all of the tips below:

  1.  Rebates are available at www.SoCalWaterSmart.com for high efficiency washers and toilets, rotating sprinkler nozzles, weather-based irrigation controllers, soil moisture sensors, rain barrels and turf removal
  2. Apply 2" to 3" of mulch to your soil to reduce evaporation and runoff. Visit lacitysan.org/srpcd/mulch_compost.htm for free mulch.
  3. Check out the City's flyers on "Caring for your Lawn", "Water Conservation Tips", and more!
  4. To learn more about how much to water, drought tolerant plants, and rebates, water and irrigation, visit www.BeWaterWise.com
For information on how to water efficiently and rebates on water conserving devices, visit the City's website, call (626) 403-7311 or email dfigoni@southpasadenaca.gov.
