Events at St. James
An Easter message from Father Dunnam

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Tomorrow the Church around the world embarks on the Holy
Triduum, the last three days of Holy Week. Here at St. James
Church we will observe these holy days with special liturgies.
Tomorrow, Maundy Thursday, we commemorate the institution of
the Lord's Supper, also known as Holy Communion, the Mass and
the Holy Eucharist. We observe the Washing of Feet by the priest
for anyone who wishes to participate. This is symbolic of Christ
who is the Servant of servants, and how we, ourselves, as disciples
of Christ are to serve the world in Christ's name. The Altar will
be stripped and washed in preparation for the death and burial of
Jesus, and all ornamentation in the Church will be removed. The
Maundy Thursday eucharist is at 7:30 pm.Day after tomorrow is Good Friday. Both at Noon and 7:30 pm we will observe the Good Friday Liturgy and the Veneration of the Holy Cross.
We will receive communion from the Reserved Sacrament from the
evening before. This Saturday we will have Noonday Prayer and at 7:30 pm we will celebrate the Easter Vigil, or the First Mass of Easter.
We begin outside with the lighting of the Easter Fire and the Paschal Candle. Each of us light our individual candles from the Paschal Candle symbolizing our reception of the Light of Christ. We listen to Lessons tracing our salvation history, and then celebrate joyously the Lord's Resurrection. The Church will be ablaze with
light and flowers and resplendent with everything beautiful. After the Easter Vigil we will have a sumptuous Easter Party, or Agape, in the Undercroft. All are invited.
Sunday is Easter Day and begins the Easter season, or The Great Fifty Days of Easter. There will be a eucharist at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. There will be special music at the 11:00 am eucharist followed by a prosecco toast on the front portico and an Easter Egg Hunt in the parish gardens for all the children and those " young of heart".
I hope you will make a special effort to participate in the entire
Holy Triduum. It will be good for your soul. And I promise you will arrive with great joy on Easter Day. How very blessed we are here at St. James Church to be part of this sacred community.
Come. Be with your sisters and brothers. Invite family and
friends.
With much love to you and yours at this Holy Season,
 Mark

We need your suggestions for local outreach donations to be made in 2014. There are so many wonderful organizations in the Province of Florence, run primarily by volunteers, which actively help the community. This is an opportunity for St. James to help them in their work.

The deadline for submissions is September 30.
