Each year clergy and lay members of the Convocation of Episcopal churches and missions in Europe gather for an annual Convention. This year your rector The Rev T. Mark Dunnam, member of the Council of Advice, and two delegates appointed by the vestry, Betty Nadalini and Antonietta Ferraioli, traveled to Rome on Thursday October 17 for the three-day meeting. Joining them was Cynthia D'Alimonte , President of the Council of Advice. The program centered around the four areas of  Vision 2012: Community and Identity, Lifelong Christian Formation and Transformation, Beyond Our Doors, and Managing God's Assets. Bishop Tim Ellis, Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Lincoln, gave talks addressing each area. Breakout groups then discussed how the four areas are manifest in the parish life of their church. Participants heard reports from each Convocation committee as well as the presentation of the brand new Convocation website, launched in September. A nursery is provided each Sunday during the 11:00 AM Eucharist for toddlers and little ones who are happier there. Parents please consider the use of our professionally staffed Nursery.

 

"Comfort Ye My People" is a Sunday School project this year. Preserved and fresh homemade goods will be sold after the 11:00 AM Parish Eucharist  on Sundays. Proceeds from the sale of these "comfort foods" will fund an outreach project of the Sunday School to help needy children in Tuscany.

 

St. James Church holds Noonday Prayer in the Church every Tuesday through Friday at 12:00 PM.

 

Come join us for 10 minutes of prayer and meditation. Noonday Prayer will be led by the clergy and staff of St. James Church, and any volunteer who is interested in this leadership. Please contact the Church office.

The Educational Department, of the Polo Museale Fiorentino, in collaborationwith the FondazioneSalvatore Ferragamo, is sponsoring "Musei da Favola," a series of events forfamiliesinspiredby the exhibition "Il calzolaio prodigioso. Fiabe e leggende di scarpe e calzolai " in progress at the Ferragamo Museumuntil March 31,2014.

  

This summer, young and old can listen to stories of angels, saints, and craftsmen while observing the sculptures of Orsanmichele, take "An Enchated Walk" in the Boboli Gardens, enter "The House of the Prince" at the Pitti Palace, and perhaps visit the Palace after seeing the collection of the Uffizi Gallery with "The paintings that Tell a Story ..."   

The meetings, by appointment only, will be held on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays and are directed at children and teenagers from 7 to 14 years, accompanied by family members. (Free entrance to the museums of the Polo for people under 18 year; free entrance to the Ferragamo museum.)

"Happening" is a renewal weekend for high school aged young people. The purpose of Happening is to renew the spiritual life of high school students who attend, in order that they may take their place in the ministry and leadership of the parishes and missions which sponsor them. It is a powerful encounter in which young people minister to young people, bringing Jesus Christ joyfully alive in a Eucharistic community of disciples.

 

It is a weekend experience of fun, games, sharing, surprises and, most of all, a time of spiritual renewal and empowerment. Everyone has a chance to meet in small groups to discuss and respond to a series of talks given by teenagers to teenagers. The talks deal with subjects such as Reality, Faith, Jesus Christ, Church and Prayer.
