"So You've Just Arrived"
The Adult Forum starts off the season on October 13 with a discussion entitled "So You've Just Arrived."
Many of those who attend St James have lived in Florence for many years. We also have those who have "just landed" on a weekly basis. Let's open this forum and pool our suggestions for the perpetual newcomers who cross our doorway. We might even come up with enough tips to print a brochure!
Come prepared to share your advice. If you're a new arrival, come for a great introduction to your stay in our city.
Grab a cappuccino and enjoy the conversation!

Art Against Domestic Violence
Every three days a woman is killed in Italy as a result of domestic violence. Last year Artemisia - the women and children's crisis center located in Florence - helped approximately 1000 women rebuild their lives. By the end of August Artemisia had already helped approximately 800 women this year. As public awareness has risen with respect to domestic violence, and women are coming to realize that there is a way out, the need for a safe place to receive assistance is increasing.
On October 10, from 6:30 PM at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights (Via Ghibellina, 12a) the American International League of Florence ONLUS will, in partnership with the Robert F. Kennedy Center, be hosting an evening aperitivo with the proceeds going to Artemisia.
Local women artisans, both expat and Italian, will be showing and selling their handcrafts, on the evening of October 10 and during the day on October 11, with 10 percent of their sales going to Artemisia.
Tickets are on sale for €12 at the Paperback Exchange Bookstore, Via delle Oche, 4r and at the door on October 10.
This fundraising event is supported by several Anglo women's organizations in Florence, among them the American International League of Florence ONLUS (AILO), the Young Anglo Women's Network (YAWN), NETWORK and Firenze Moms4Moms Network.

A Christian Experience for Young People
"Happening" is a renewal weekend for high school aged young people. It is a powerful encounter in which young people minister to young people, bringing Jesus Christ joyfully alive in a Eucharistic community of disciples.
It is a weekend experience of fun, games, sharing, surprises and, most of all, a time of spiritual renewal and empowerment. Everyone has a chance to meet in small groups to discuss and respond to a series of talks given by teenagers to teenagers. The talks deal with subjects such as Reality, Faith, Jesus Christ, Church and Prayer.

"God is Love; and love enfolds us, all the world in one embrace; with unfailing grasp God holds us, every child of every race. And when human hearts are breaking under sorrow's iron rod, then we find that self-same aching deep within the heart of God."
