St. James Fundraiser
Cooking Lesson: There will be only one cooking lesson in April, this Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 6:30 PM, and featuring the Italian cuisine. Renowned Florentine chef Maria Paola Giannone (http://www.paolagiannonechef.com/) will conduct the lessons in Italian, but her assistant chef, St. James' Antonietta Ferraioli, will be available to translate. Following the lesson, participants will enjoy the fruits of their labor with a scrumptious three course meal, drinks included. The minimum donation to participate is €28, and may be paid at the lesson. Please be aware that you will be held responsible for the full amount if you cancel less than 48 hours before the lesson. This promises to be a lot of fun, as well as an important fundraiser for the Church, so try to come! Contact Antonietta or the Church Office to reserve.

Next Adult Forum April 14
Julia Miglets will present the topic of "When the Saint Goes Marching In: Medieval and Renaissance Italian Saints." If you visit any church in Florence (including St. James) you will see images of the saints immortalized in paintings, sculpture, and stained glass. But how did a person become a saint in the first place, and why are there so many saints from the Middle Ages and Renaissance? Julia is a PhD Candidate in Medieval and Renaissance history at Northwestern University, studying sanctity, female spirituality, and the function of art in medieval and early modern religion. Grab a cappuccino and join us in the Undercroft at 10:00 AM!

Jane Eyre - Score by Bernard Herrmann
"With its Gothic effects and exuberant melodrama, Robert Stevenson's adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel cries out for a sensitive and intense soundtrack, and Herrmann obliges with his first 'screen opera'. Wagnerian in its theatricality, Herrmann's music is full of 'Gothic extravagances and poetic morbidities,' much praised by Paul Bowles."

"Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises, Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not. Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices That, if I then had waked after long sleep, Will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming, The clouds methought would open and show riches Ready to drop upon me that, when I waked, I cried to dream again."
