Each Wednesday in Lent there will be a Book Study at  7:30 PM at the Rectory. We will be reading and discussing Henri Nouwen's In the House of the Lord. Books will be provided and everyone is welcome. Dates: February 20, February 27, March 6, March 13, March 20. See you there!

The Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe has a program in place to train vestries , parish staffs, and all workers with children and youth about appropriate and professional behavior. The Rev. Jana Johnsen of Wisbaden, Germany, a professional trainer in this field, will lead an all day workshop to educate and inform us of policies and procedures. Everyone is invited to attend. Italian Cooking Lessons

St. James Fundraiser

 

As a main fundraising event for the Church, St. James will be offering a series of four cooking lessons in April, featuring the cuisine of the various regions of Italy. Renowned Florentine chef Maria Paola Giannone (http://www.paolagiannonechef.com) will conduct the lessons in Italian, but her assistant chef, St. James' Antonietta Ferraioli, will be available to translate. Following each lesson, participants will enjoy the fruits of their labor with a scrumptious three course meal, drinks included.

 

The lessons will be on Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, and 24 beginning at 6:30 PM.

 

The minimum donation to participate in all is €110.

What: A youth weekend in Waterloo, Belgium. Includes adventures, activities, thought provoking discussions, food, and so much more.
WhyAn annual gathering of the youth groups of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe - to develop relationships between churches and to be encouraged in our faith and learn more about Christ... with lots of fun thrown in.
WhoYoung people aged 13 to 19 at the time of the event and leaders to accompany each church group (aged 24 and up).
WhenFrom 6pm on Wednesday, 8 May 2013 to 1pm (after church) on Sunday, 12 May 2013. Please arrive and depart as close to these times as possible.
WhereHosted by All Saints' Church, Waterloo (Chaussee de Charleroi 2, 1420 Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium). Sleeping will be on floors within the church with meals in the parish hall. Showers are exceedingly limited and should not be assumed.
Cost€10 per participant (youth and adult) to be brought with you to the event.
What to bringClothes for the duration, suitable for church services, active games and sightseeing. Wash kit and towel. Sleeping bag and pillow (a sleeping mat is optional but recommended). Bible. Spending money.

Every Sunday in Church, the St. James Foodbank is collecting donations of food. Please support this important ministry by donating any of the following items: canned tomatoes, canned beans, 1 liter packages of long shelf life milk, 500 gram packages of pasta, 1 kilo packages of rice, 80 gram and 160 gram cans of tuna, coffee, crackers, small boxes of juice, merendine.  

 

The shopping cart will be at the back of the Church, waiting to be filled!

It is a spacious 3-bedroom, 3-bath apartment, furnished with antiques, including a beautiful 1826 John Broadwood fortepiano, and overlooking the church and the rectory garden. It is fully equipped with linens for both bed and bath, along with kitchen supplies. There is satellite television that includes many English language programs, a washing machine, microwave oven, and iron. The bedrooms and living room are air conditioned. Off- street parking within the grounds of the church for one car.

The Irvington High School Wind Orchestra & Chorus

 

The Irvington High School Wind Orchestra and Chorus, from New York, will be giving their final performance in Florence as a culmination of their first ever tour to Italy.  The programme of music includes highlights from Italy's musical heritage with works by Verdi, Respighi, and Palestrina in addition to American favorites from Bernstein and Arlen.  These young students have worked extremely hard to raise funds for the trip by giving local concerts, bake sales and much more.
