Although St. Mark's English Church was victorious, St. James had a grand showing. Our team was 20-strong! Many thanks to team members: Jacqui, India, Michael, Gabriel, Gloria, Valerie, Margi, Ivy, Erica, Timothy, Mary Louise, Jocelyn, Telson, Karen, Dottie, Mark, Liz, Shamaey, and two guests from Nebraska, Leslie and Denise. The bonds of our Anglican mutual affection was topped off by a delicious cup of tea afterwards.

In our daily life we are often confronted with the reality that it can be difficult to live a spiritual life. In the business of our homes, at the workplace, or when shopping; how can we liberate ourselves from the many distractions which surround us and continue to live a spiritual life in the midst of today's troubles?

 

Weekend Retreat: March 1-3, 2013

Location: The Guesthouse of the Missionsbenediktinerinnen, Bahnhofstr. 3, 82327 Tutzing is easily reachable from Munich, Germany by a local train. It is located almost directly at Lake Starnberg.

 

Duration: The retreat will begin with dinner at 18:00 on Friday March 1, 2012, and end with lunch on Sunday March 3, 2012 at 12:30.

 

Costs: Participants pay for their own travel and accommodations. Costs for room and full board are €94 in a single room, €86 in a double room.

The Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe has a program in place to train vestries , parish staffs, and all workers with children and youth about appropriate and professional behavior. The Rev. Jana Johnsen of Wisbaden, Germany, a professional trainer in this field, will lead an all day workshop to educate and inform us of policies and procedures. Everyone is invited to attend. Italian Cooking Lessons

As a main fundraising event for the Church, St. James will be offering a series of four cooking lessons in April, featuring the cuisine of the various regions of Italy. Renowned Florentine chef Maria Paola Giannone (http://www.paolagiannonechef.com) will conduct the lessons in Italian, but her assistant chef, St. James' Antonietta Ferraioli, will be available to translate. Following each lesson, participants will enjoy the fruits of their labor with a scrumptious three course meal, drinks included.

 

The lessons will be on Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, and 24 beginning at 6:30 PM.

 

The minimum donation to participate in all is €110.

Please support this important ministry by donating any of the following items: canned tomatoes, canned beans, 1 liter packages of long shelf life milk, 500 gram packages of pasta, 1 kilo packages of rice, 80 gram and 160 gram cans of tuna, coffee, crackers, small boxes of juice, merendine.  

 

The shopping cart will be at the back of the Church, waiting to be filled!

It is fully equipped with linens for both bed and bath, along with kitchen supplies. There is satellite television that includes many English language programs, a washing machine, microwave oven, and iron. The bedrooms and living room are air conditioned. Off- street parking within the grounds of the church for one car.

Talking Pictures at the British Institute - Zeffirelli Series

One Billion Rising Flash Mob in Piazza della Repubblica

On February 14th, The Global Theatre Project's Creative Campus program in collaboration with the Comune di Firenze, the US Consulate and the Robert Kennedy Foundation will organize a flash mob in Piazza Repubblica. This event will be part of a global movement on that day to bring attention to the growing issue of violence against women and girls. Over 180 countries and 13,000 organizations will participate. We are proud to add Florence to that list.

 

Girls and boys, men and women of all ages are invited. Let us fill Piazza Repubblica to its fullest capacity!!!

The event will begin exactly at 15.00 and last no more than 20 minutes.

 

We are asking for everyone to bring a donation, of any size, which will be collected by Associazione Artemisia for their work helping victims of violence.
