Lifelong Christian Formation

 

Please put December 7 and 8 on your calendar to be at St. James Church. Beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday with dinner, we will be led by Ruth-Ann Collins of the Episcopal Church Center in New York City in looking at the Charter for Lifelong Christian Formation. Beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday, we will break for lunch and end by 2:30 PM. 

 

Cindy D'Alimonte and her team will be in charge of meals. A sign-up sheet will be in the back of the Church, or you may contact the Church office. This gathering is for the entire parish. Please come and welcome our special guest from the Episcopal Church Center in the United States.

 

A Parish Seasonal Lunch

At its last meeting, the Vestry voted unanimously to host and sponsor a Parish Seasonal Lunch immediately following the Service of Advent Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 16. The cost will be 10 Euro for adults, kids free. There will also be a raffle. A sign-up sheet will be in the back of the Church, or you may contact the Church office. See you there!

Acolyte Revolution!

Training for acolytes is being offered to older children, teens, and adults during Sunday School. The new Guild of Acolytes will be inter-generational for those who desire to serve at the Altar on Sundays. Please contact the Church Office if interested.

Pledge 2013 

 

The time has arrived for us to prayerfully consider and commit our pledges to St. James Church for 2013. Pledge cards will be mailed and can also be obtained at the Church Office and at the Church Entrance. Thank you to everyone who supports the many ministries of St. James Church. We will have an ingathering of all our pledges on December 16 when they will be presented on the Altar for God's blessing.

Every Sunday in Church, the St. James Foodbank is collecting donations of food. Please support this important ministry by donating any of the following items: canned tomatoes, canned beans, 1 liter packages of long shelf life milk, 500 gram packages of pasta, 1 kilo packages of rice, 80 gram and 160 gram cans of tuna, coffee, crackers, small boxes of juice, merendine.  

 

The shopping cart will be at the back of the Church, waiting to be filled!

St. James' Town House is a three story apartment with its own entrance on via Bernardo Rucellai, next to the church rectory and part of the parish complex. It is a spacious 3-bedroom, 3-bath apartment, furnished with antiques, including a beautiful 1826 John Broadwood fortepiano, and overlooking the church and the rectory garden. It is fully equipped with linens for both bed and bath, along with kitchen supplies. There is satellite television that includes many English language programs, a washing machine, microwave oven, and iron. The bedrooms and living room are air conditioned. Off- street parking within the grounds of the church for one car.

The conference celebrates the 25th anniversary of Primo Levi's death and focuses on the question of ´the last witness.´ What will happen when there are no remaining survivors of the Nazi extermination camps? How, and in what manner, will the sons, daughters, and grandchildren of survivors transmit the memory of their experience to future generations? In what manner will the memory of the Shoah change? Amerigo & America: An Art Exhibition by Diversely Abled Italians & Americans

Plus Ultra, I Grandi Viaggi or Above & Beyond

 

Plus Ultra, I Grandi Viaggi is an art show featuring works by diversely abled Italian and American artists, as well as students from California State University who are enrolled at Florence's Accademia of Fine Arts. The theme of the event is the idea that, in the spirit of Vespucci, traveling requires going beyond our limits.

 

The next initiative of the Amerigo & America program, the exhibition is a collaborative effort involving Colori del Levante Fiorentino, a cultural and artistic association and ODA (La Fondazione Opera Diocesana Assistenza Onlus), a foundation that assists disabled adults. Among the exhibits is a painting by Kevin Hosseini, a 17-year old autistic American artist whose work is currently hanging in the Smithsonian.

On Saturday, December 8, the American International League of Florence is holding its annual Christmas Bazaar.

This much anticipated event will be held again this year at Le Pagiere (ex Scuderie Reali), Viale Machiavelli 24. The Bazaar will be open from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and the lottery numbers will be drawn at 2:30 PM.
