NAPIRE Deadline is February 28, 2014
It's Time to Apply for NAPIRE 2014!  

 

For all of you who have been thinking about applying for NAPIRE 2014, it's time to start working on your applications! If you know of students who are interested or who would be good candidates for NAPIRE, please forward this newsletter to them and encourage them to get in touch with NAPIRE staff if they have any questions about the program. NAPIRE 2013 Students at SACNAS and AISES
Students Win Awards at Conferences 
NAPIRE 2013 students came out in full force at the recent SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) and AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) Conferences. Seven students gave poster presentations at SACNAS and three gave poster and oral presentations at AISES. Motusaga Vaeoso won a botany award and   Will Culver III won 1st place in oral presentation and 2nd place in poster presentation at AISES! Way to go NAPIRE 2013!
NAPIRE Jobs and Mentorship Opportunities
NAPIRE Co-Coordinator 
OTS is seeking applicants for the position of Co-Coordinator of the NAPIRE Program. The Co-Coordinator will work closely with the Program Coordinator, Mentors, and the Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs in all aspects of the design and implementation of the 2014 NAPIRE program. The position will be held for 5 months (April-August 2014) and will be based at Las Cruces Biological Station in Costa Rica from June 1 to August 15, 2014. Teaching Assistants
OTS is also seeking applicants for the position of NAPIRE
Teaching Assistant. Two teaching assistants will provide logistical and other support to the NAPIRE Coordinator and Co-Coordinator, as well as with research mentors. The position runs from June 1 through August 3, 2014. For more information on the position and how to apply, visit the OTS website.

 

Research Mentors  

NAPIRE is seeking volunteer Research Mentors (ABD or PhD only) to guide Native American and Pacific Islander undergraduate students in tropical ecological research. This is an exciting and highly rewarding research internship program for minority undergraduate students. If you are interested in being a Mentor, or would like more information, please contact the Program Coordinator.
