Dear St. Francis Xavier Families,
Sometimes we get caught off guard. Two competing priorities come barreling at us at the same time. How do we choose wisely? It all depends on what you value.
Our primary values are shaped by example. I am able to love others because I was shown love. At some point I choose to love even when it's difficult. I can only do this because what I value has become part of who I am at my core. How do we pass on values, then support a deeper way for our kids to take them on as their own?
I've been asking our soon to be graduates, "What's at the center of your life? What keeps you reaching for your dreams, and what pulls you back up when you're down?" I listen carefully so I can reflect who they are at their core on the recommendation I will write for their high school admissions. I also listen carefully so I can assess how we're doing as a school. Did we get it right?
Often a student will pause and say, "I need to think about this," and we will sit together in quiet for a bit and wait. Then with complete confidence the student will start to articulate what springs from within, what she carries within her at all times, what he knows will carry him forward, what each knows for sure. It's a powerful experience that borders on the sacred when one can say for certain what's at their source. I'm humbled by the response each and every time.
What we value becomes who we are. Living those values creates our future. We do it together, home and school and God. Nothing short of miraculous.
Blessings,
Ms. Kim Cavnar, Principal

Diocese of Phoenix to Celebrate 8th Annual Night of Hope Gala Event in Support of Catholic Education
|
All net proceeds from Night of Hope go toward providing scholarships for families who otherwise would not be able to afford a Catholic education. Last year $130,000 in scholarships were granted for immediate and emergency needs.
"Night of Hope is a celebration of our Catholic schools with the goal of providing additional funding for students and families in need," said MaryBeth Mueller, superintendent of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools. "Our schools integrate our faith, values and culture. We need to keep our doors open for those families who truly want to bring up their children in a loving, faith-filled environment."
The evening promises faith, friends, food and fun, but also an opportunity to honor those who have been vitally important in advancing the mission and values of Catholic education. This year's Guardian of Hope Awards will be presented to Margaret Gillespie, and posthumously to Cecilia and Michael Frakes.
Tables may be purchased for $1,500, and individual tickets are available for $150. Sponsorship opportunities are available for local businesses the night of the event.
Visit catholicschoolsphx.com/noh.php for details. Proceeds from the Night of Hope event benefit the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools Endowment and Tuition Assistance Fund.
